Physics Games and Physics-Based Game Downloads

Reviewer/Moderator Status

Monday, May 28th, 2007 by Matthew in News

Just a note, because I’m getting some emails about this–I haven’t had time to look through all of the application for game reviewer and forum moderator positions yet. I have an excuse, though; there are lot of them! Over 40 reviewer applications, and over 30 for moderator. I want to make sure I follow up with promising candidates carefully, so I won’t be announcing the positions until later this week.

I’m out of town this week, but will have email access, so I’ll be following up with select people in the next few days. Sorry for the delay, but work has been busy (lot of casual games to cover lately, with some new titles like the Hidden Expedition: Everest game coming out this week too…not that physics game players particularly care!)

Great to hear from you, Matthew. It’s also nice to hear that a lot of people applied for the jobs, it means it’s more likely we’ll get better people!

    Choose well, and don’t rush.

Alright, I think we’re all glad to see some form of update on this. Good luck.

Ah, an update. Let’s wish everyone to have good luck and for those select few who win to have fun.

Heh, could’ve told you this many applications would be a problem. Meh, I’m willing to wait.

    Also, misspelled URL. http://www.flashbangstudios.com/game/hidden-expedition-everest/

    Is the correct one.

I wasn’t too worried. I hope I get the moderator position, as I was one of the first people to start visiting this site thou.

Haha, I really doubt I’d get a position at all, considering I’m only 12. :P But then again, it doesn’t hurt to be confident and optimistic. I took nearly 2 hours doing my e-mail(s), yes, I worked on three different letters, considering Internet Explorer crashed the two long ones I did. T_T It was at the strike at midnight, and continued typing up another one….one that wasn’t….so long. T_T I really loved my first two, considering that I may actually have some potential producing resumes. (sp?) ;) I just hopethat my maturity and other aspects could actually bring hope. Heh, hope Matthew won’t mind if I whipped up another one. One MUCH more detailed and not as horribly blunt as my last one…which I hate by the way. :P

I applied for the reviewer position as well. Anyone know how many reviewers he’ll be choosing?

Probably five or so–I’ve been slowly working my way through them. Some friends and family are flying into town this weekend, but I’m hoping to carve out a few hours to finish the lot. Stay tuned!

Hope you have fun with familyand friends, Matthew. Hope you’ll be able to finish soon so you can relax a little more instead of worrying about the forum, if you are that is.

anybody have the virus or trojan “Vundo.dll” or just “Vundo” cause i got 2 of em basturds and i am trying to figure how i got them. i hope its not from games from this site!

  17. Relys said,

    on June 10th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

The Vundo trojan is one of the most common versus.

Just search around for a simple removal tool! I’m sure you didn’t get it from the games here, because it is quite common! Next time you visit adult sites, turn on your anti-virus! ;p

Hey guys, I know that there hasn’t been a review in ages but you need to give Matt some time. Occupy yourself with the forums if u r that bored. Just cut him some slack.

  22. McTuble said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 7:31 am

I’m not impatient that was more of a little joke. I check the forums often and I give Matt all the slack he needs.

  23. Chris said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 2:01 pm

Yeh thats cool, I just think Matt does a fantastic job here and we dont want him to be rushed in to doing things thats all. :)

  24. James said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 2:31 pm

I think mat has done a good job, but now he is not.
The forums are falling apart and this blog is not publishing enough posts to keep interest.
This is why he is hiring people to do most of it for him. So will you all stop kissing his ass, it’s making me sick.

  25. Matthew said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 3:41 pm

Heh–James’ post made me chuckle, because he’s basically right. I haven’t had time for the site this year, and it’s suffering as a result. The new writing staff will fix that, though.

Also, on the forums–if you see something abusive just use the report post feature. That emails me and I do respond to them.

  26. Maltor124 said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 4:07 pm

Wow, Matthew, you take a punch really well.

    :P

I suppose I should use the report feature more often, it’s just I’ve never really seen much that actually called for a report.

(On a side-note, I almost peed when I saw a post by Matthew here. As you can see, I’m still waiting…hehe.)

  27. Relys said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 5:25 pm

    *cough cough* *waiting*

  28. Paul said,

    on June 21st, 2007 at 8:26 pm

    *sigh*

Look, I also have applied for the position of reviewer and this is my first post on this particular subject. In fact, it’s my first post on ANY particular subject, so i’m going to make this count.

Matthew has a lot on his plate right now, i’m sure. He’s already said that’s why he needs the extra staff. I’m just sick of people coming in here with their *cough cough* Waiting… or god-damn “I hope I get the job…*Kisses Matthew’s ass*”.

Bottom line? When he has decided who will be writing reviews or who will be moderating forums, we’ll know damnit. He’ll tell us! Have some freaking faith and a little bit of patience. Shit, the fact he’s taking this long gives me hope in the fact that he wont be hiring assholes to do the job, one of which may just be me.

So just let this be and god, when he knows who’s doing the job, he’ll tell us!

Patience people, please! If it were anyone else, you’d be flaming the blue shit out of them right now!

    re: James comments
It’s not just me that gets annoyed with all the brown-nosing then ;)

p.s Love the site Matt, you’re the best,a special, loving, handsome god

  31. James said,

    on June 23rd, 2007 at 10:58 am

Yer, I think you get my point ;) I thought I was going to get shouted down for that.
But it’s the same story for similar things. I believe jolt was handing out admin and mods positions on their forums and gaming server, before you know it the forums get packed with people saying how good the site is, people recalling the good things they have done and one guy had to change his email address because of all the emails of good will he was getting.
And respect to mat for agreeing with me on my last comment.

    P.S. It’s 8-Ball here, just so you know :P

  32. Parker said,

    on June 23rd, 2007 at 12:47 pm

The impatience and annoyance does not stem from a lack of understanding, it comes from a number of failed promises. At least twice now, he has stated ‘I will have it done by (insert date/time here),’ and then we don’t see anything – often times we don’t even get an update as to why until well after the fact.

I know he is a busy man, but that just means he should not be setting arbitrary deadlines he cannot uphold.

  33. McTuble said,

    on June 23rd, 2007 at 3:31 pm

I agree he has said he would have it done by a certain time but doesn’t and then doesn’t inform us as to why however you have to realize that there is very little we can do about it. Complaining about it on here doesn’t help. How about we all just wait. He will do it when he gets around to it. It’s not the end of the world even if he never does it.

  34. Mosh said,

    on June 23rd, 2007 at 11:17 pm

He can set any deadlines he likes. If he misses them – bad luck. Simple. You get the content on this website for free. It’s a privilige, not a right.

  35. McTuble said,

    on June 24th, 2007 at 9:51 am

I was thinking along those lines as well your explanation is much shorter and concise. Good work Mosh.

Im sorry for this comment but…

…McTuble, I’ve tried to contact you in several ways, but I got no answer. Then I noticed that you look here pretty often so I got to tell it here, I made a loop with the Ski Stunt Editor, and it fully works. That means that the skier comes out behind it so you can continue on the track, take a look at this:

Seriously, this suxx. I mean: No real update for 2 months???
I don’t want to offend you but I don’t wanna see this ++++++ “Reviewer/Moderator” – crap everytime I visit this site in order to read interesting new game reviews…

Sorry, but I just wanna see this site as active as before… =(
I understand that you may be busy, but you should understand my position, too.

    best regards,

    Ranter

  39. Matthew said,

I completely understand. Believe me, it pains me to go from 3x-weekly review posts down to a lull. Progress is being made, though.

All moderator emails have gone out (yes, backups, and no).

“Yes” reviewer emails just went out. After I get confirmation from everyone I’ll send out the “backup” and “no” emails. The delay is because I may use some of the backup people if a yes person doesn’t confirm or declines.

There were over 100 applicants across all positions. After the reviewers are set up I’ll figure out the features/news position next.

Fear not, the site will be active before too long! And if you’re bored, type my name into Google video…
