Hammerfall Officially Emerges as Hammerfight

The much-loved IGF finalist, Hammerfall, has finally officially re-emerged as Hammerfight. The name change has been hinted at through Russian magazine scans and twice-translated forum posts, but this marks the first time something from Konstantin Koshutin himself has appeared online.

The new Koshutin.com website features new screenshots, game information, and a video trailer. No release platforms are mentioned. Hammerfight/Hammerfall is awesomecurrently #3 on the all-time charts here at Fun-Motion–and I can’t wait to see what a year of polish has done for the game!

The website speed is quite slow, so I’ve mirrored the new trailer here:

Update: A 20MB demo is available, although likely in Russian only (it looks like the English version isn’t ready yet). I’ve mirrored the demo here:

    Glad to see something new on the front page!

    And i have to agree that i can’t wait for Hammerfight too. Really anxious about what the one-year of polishing brought to this amazing game. Hopefully the demo (and the full game) will come out pretty soon……

    The new demo is already up on the webpage!

    Thing is, though, it’s only in Russian.
    Also, the demo download link only functions if you’re reading the page in Russian. If you have trouble looking for it, I suggest switching to English (upper left corner) then switching back once you’ve found the link. That is, if you either understand Russian or are willing to struggle with incomprehensible text.

    It’s worth it, though - the new release looks good. Among several changes, the game seems to have a function that allows for multiple mouses (mice?) in play. I don’t know what it’s about yet but that’s got me excited.

    The controls and acceleration seem like what I remember how the 0.21 release felt… before I edited some of the settings manually in some config file. So if you edited those settings in the old versions, you are going to have to do it again to get the feel you remember.

    I really like being able to consistently pick up dropped/disarmed gear, getting to play with the new “potions” and thrown weapons, and being able to set inventory items to keyboard keys. The only trouble I am having, other than not knowing Russian, is that I have a lot of trouble dropping weapons to pick up new ones

    I’m pretty glad that this project is still alive; I had given up hope. Someone really needs to help out in the translation though. Even just like a secondary filter type of deal. Clear up the odd sequential factors and such.

    And of course adding more on all fronts would be nice. More movement settings should become available. I would like to tweak things to my comfort.

    Wow, things seem to have changed a lot… and it’s not good. The art still looks great, but the weapons have a cheesy blur effect on them. The movement has been changed a lot- and its not really fun to play. It seems to have been tweaked to allow more power in rotation, but it makes you feel like mindlessly spinning is the best way to stay alive. The influence of your weapon is drastically increased; so much so that the mace is a great pain to use, while a blade feels quick and efficient. This does not feel like an update, and it pains me to think so. I’m seriously hating some of the changes.

    Blur effect can be turned off, at least there is an option in the config file. But when I changed “render blur” to “false” I didn’t see any obvious change in gameplay. Does anyone know what the deal with that is? I also tried to turn render smoke off, no dice.

    Anyway, I don’t mind the controls being a bit less sensitive and the copters being a little slower. The older version became easy way too fast; it seemed like the weapons were all about as powerful as another because you could just flail away with abandon. This version probably needs a bit of tweaking, but I think it is fun if the action is a little slower, and it takes more consideration and skill to land a blow. Opinions will vary I guess..

    I’ve figured out how to get yourself back to the frist level in solo, open up the the saves folder, open the profiel.seria file (open with notepad) change m_level_file= to:

    m_level_file=GAIAR_training.seria

    but has anyone figured out how to reset the arena level so you can work your way through that again?

    After finishing Solo mode change in Saves\profile_xx.seria
    m_level_file=DEMO.seria to
    m_level_file=ARIA.seria (or ARIA2, ARIA3 - different arenas)
    Then choose Solo mode - next level of arena starts, after winning exit from demo level (bubbles) by Esc. Then again start Solo… next level of arena :)

    But it is cheating!

    Funny bug: connect any light sword with any club on chain, Then choose sword and right click. Nomally it must reverse sword blade, but in this case sword starts to rotate without mouse moving! )

    Help in Russian says: select weapon and hold RMB for 0.5 sec.

    how?
    when you beat level 9, hit ESC
    then hit restart

    you will proceed to level 10 with the equipment you had at the start of level 9

    Continue until you die

    at about level 12 you have to fight two opponents at once.

    from what i can tell the difficulty increases exponentially. I suspect your have to face a good deal more then 30 opponents at 40. Actually. I would expect the number to be in the thousands at that stage.

    and Great game by the way. (stupid question) Does the new demo still have a time-limit? if so, does it still have that bug where you just wait untill it runs out, then create a new game on the same slot, and you have INF. time?

    As far as I can tell, the New demo plays until you are defending your nation against the invaders, and you see that cut scene and its over. I believe they have removed the time limit completely. Even though I can not understand Russian, there is one point where you get to choose from 2 or 3 options, I cant remember, and I think depending on what option you choose, determines a different story line to progress through, because a lot of it was different this time around compared to my first time on the old version.

    I am thinking about playing through the demo again just to see if anything else happens on those choices.

    Also, does anyone have any idea when the full English version will be released? I will definitely drop my money into that.

    Hard choice (red comment): protection of ambassador from wasp (2 parts).
    Other choice: hunter’s tournament & hold out against worms
    After that both line run into one - battle against Sophit (big monster under moonlight)

    Demo 1.0 on koshutin.com was replaced to v1.03
    Few changes, but GKosh says he corrects control mechanic closer to v0.21
    Also some antihackers improvement. :) Incompatible with saves from 1.0

    Hmm… I compare both… Hard to say, may be 1.03 a little better.
    But in new versions absolete speed of the copter much smaller than in v0.21.

    Well, it’s better, and the bad blur animation is gone. (which does wonders for my fps) I wish he would get rid of the over the head banner and animations for things like taunt and being concussed though. It’s sad to see such slow copters too- I mean play the old version of the game side by side and see which one you enjoy more. Things are so furious in the older version and I can’t find a reason why it was necessary to change. I would like to see the rate of movement stay fast, but just have much bigger arenas in general.

    I mean it’s not bad by any means, but neither was the older version.

    Russian version released to stores literally half an hour ago.

    No word on the English version yet, but doesn’t matter for me, as I am fluent in both Russian and English. Plus, I imagine that the translations aren’t going to be too correct anyway.

    I bought it. It works, now my only question is how to get more gems.. I HAD one, but now i cant seem to find anymore. The problem is the game is in russian, but no worries, WELL WORTH THE SIX BUCKS!!!!
