Who says it would be a good idea?

It would simply be a gathering place, and it could maybe fill in for the Off-Topic section of the forums. Matthew could just get a Java IRC client and post it on the site so everyone has access, then...well, someone registers on Quakenet, authenticates and registers Q and R, and as long as 30 days of inactivity don't pass...well, you can keep the channel...

Would actually be pretty cool, but hey, it's the community/Matthew's decision...

So, what say ye? (Translated: What do you say?)

Good idea !
If it's possible, make a poll of this thread. I think it'll have great success and here's the solution to the off-topic discussion issue !

No need of a poll.

If the general response is good a channel is easy to set up, if more people say no, then no it is.

Also, we should decide on a server. Quakenet, Undernet, etc...

ANNOUNCEMENT: The IRC channel is called #fun-motion, on irc.quakenet.org. I need 4 people online at one time to be able to request L and/or Q. I'll be the only op until L and/or Q is accepted, then I'll turn it over to Matt to give ops to others, when he comes back.

The...'link'?

An IRC channel has no link. Probably Chatzilla has some way of connecting directly from internet links.

Anyway, even if we don't get the go-ahead from Matt, I'll seek to set it up (possibly on Quakenet) and register Q, and if Matt decides it's a good idea, It'll be "official".

PS. to connect to Quakenet:

Type this in your server window:

/server irc.quakenet.org

then:

/join #[name of channel]

I'll get to registering Q later today.

EDIT: Damnit, I mean registering L throughout the post, not Q.

Very good idea.

At the moment I am the only one there though :)

Get mIRC at mirc.com and join in!

Uhm. Yea, have to get off in 20. I'll leave everything to you guys. Got a few Toribashers to join to keep the usercount up while we register L. We need at least 4 at one time.

Oh, and as every op gets off, he'll let another user get op as he does so. I'll get on tomorrow and get op to sort out the rest of the channel settings.

If you could, just join and Idle there. If your computer is on 24/7.

I would be on.

Yup, we got L. While I was away nonetheless.

Well, now I just have to wait for Zakor to get back on so he can give me flags. And after that I'll set us up with the rest of the things we need. (Welcome messages, modes if necessary, etc)

What's the name of the channel?

Jokker

#fun-motion on irc.quakenet.org

Also, I'm working on providing an IRC bot to handle all the cool stuff. =D

I use CWT for my website's chat. Avatars, smileys, fully customizable and completely free. (don't like irc ^_^)

IRC is more widely used, and besides, there's no reason not to use it.

Just a reminder, we are still up an running, but no-one even comes to the channel excepting me and Zakor...

We have 2 bots, maintained by me. Rawbot, being a chat bot, and Z-oh being an utility bot (anti-spam, !time for now). If you join you can talk physics games...and...well, talk whatever you want. Even spamming is tolerated TO AN EXTENT.

So yeah...populate the channel guys. :@

Hmm, none people visit there or they are there when I'm not :p

Jokker

Well, blame people. I'm on there as long as my computer is on. It's in my startup folder. :S

Also, we now have a HAL bot. Meaning he learns (well, learns is an overstatement) what you guys talk, as long as it doesn't include his name. I'll try to leave him on as long as I can (and as long as there are people on), but I'm struggling to find a host or shell that lets me run Java scripts. If any of you know one, please tell me so Rawbot is on longer, and can learn easier.

Just for information, I'm usually on like this:

weekdays: 8:00 to 11-12:00, and 18-19:00 to 22:00. GMT +2
weekends: Almost constantly between 10:00 and 22:00 GMT +2

Ok, but...why? I mean I like it and I appreciate the effort you've put in, but whats wrong with the forums?

Jokker
04-12-2007, 04:35 PM
:/

The IRC isn't supposed to be forum-related. Meaning it's real-time talk about whatever you want. You can do anything in the IRC channel, but more important, you can discuss things that aren't necessarily physics-related. It could be the 'off-topic' section of the forums, and moreso, REAL-TIME. So it's easier to talk.

I see Zakor is on vacation or grounded or something, I'm the only one in there constantly. :\

I'll still be in the IRC even though it's empty, maybe it'll be popular later...

Well, good luck to you, i'm sure it will catch on...

As for me, well, who knows...
