In the suggest a game section of this forum you can rate you topic a 5 Star making Matthew review.

Mat said he would review the games that have a 5 Star rating in the suggest a game topic.

If you agree with a game's nomination use the thread rating feature to vote for it.

Actually I say only people (different from the topic creator) and over x amount of posts should be able to rate. That would be a probation for newbies so they don't go rating 5's for every thread. Oh, and 15 posts sounds about right...right?

In about half an hour they could spam for 15 posts. Maybe 40.

Edit: Maybe 25 to 30.

Provided we have a moderator on-hand, their posts could be deleted before they could rate it.

Maybe they should provide a reason and Matthew could remove non-legitimate reasons? "its gr8 gaem11!!!!" would not be a good reason. >.>

I don't think post-counts are very good. Just disable them.

Uhm, wrong thread?

If you meant according to my post, I still say remove the post count or make it private, but the post count still is implemented in vBulletin as it drives more features automatically, you'd just remove it from view...hide it.

Even with the post count removed, the over x amount of posts idea is the best one as it is a probation time for the member. Until he is part of the community he can't do 'this and that' and has to contribute...

I don't think rating someone on its post-count is such a good idea.
Even if you hide the post-count (which is a very good idea), if you tell peoples "you can't do this or that if you have less than *enter random number here* posts", it will lead you to the very same issue : peoples posting useless messages just to have this or that privilege...

And about the rating of a game/project, being a 'member of the community' does not implies having a better judging sense than a common videogame player, and posting several messages a day just agreeing with someone or saying "yeah, that's a good game, etc...." neither.

So if there is to be a classification between members of this forum, it shouldn't be based on their post count, but on the pertinence of these posts, and how they *really* contribute to the community.

I didn't mean as in they wouldn't judge right. I meant that there could be ...'n00bs' who join but simply rate 5 or 1 for each game even though they don't actually know the game. Until they get the required posts would be a probation, so if they act ...well, ban-attracting, they can get banned or warned or whatever, before they can rate threads.

That's why I also suggested adding reasons for ratings. That would mean you couldn't simply rate a 5 because everyone else thought the same, and senseless posts could be removed...

Yes, having a reason for rating is a good idea, and it makes the rating more constructive, and I totally agree with you on the fact that we need a system to 'filter' members.

So for example, certain privileges should be granted to "real" members, such as being able to rate recommendations and post replies to them with the reason for the rating.
And this "real" membership will be given to everyone who proves not being an annoyance and contributing to the community.
The rules could be :
-having more than, say, 10-20 posts (just as to make sure it's not a non-regular visitor)
-having at least 5-10 posts that contribute in something in the discussion, and not pointless posts (so that we get rid of spammers and noobs).

On a forum, we set a post count based restriction, but never told people the number of posts needed to get past the restriction.

Cut down on spam by a lot.

Grif's right. Just let Matthew decide if he's doing it, and if he is, the number of posts. He won't tell us, and it's better that way. Besides, anyone who is serious about liking physics games will certainly post enough on these forums.

Somebody else could vote stars to the game Someone has suggested.

I agree. It would prevent for every one to make a 5 star thread.

Erm...What?

Did you even read what we posted?

Anyone else, except the thread creator, will be able to rate the thread, but only if he's out of 'probation'. Matthew will choose what the probation will be.

PS. I need to get a sig, and I know just the one. mister_x, watch out.

I assumed that what happens anyway, I mean, I suggested Carmageddon II and it got 5 stars, but i didn't vote on it, I didn't even bother, so your saying that matthew might review it...........cool.

And I think you should be able to rate at 50 posts- Half way between newbies and seiniors (like us)
