But seriously, Ski Stunt is one of the best games on fun-motion, but we had limited levels to play.

So when you mentioned a level editor, people went crazy!
You (or whoever is responsible for the level editor) are missing a very big breakthrough oppertunity! So please, put us out of misery:p

And i'm sure people will do great things, like in linerider =)

Yeah! I can see someone making a whole mountain, and you could select which part you want to go on and you get a lift up there, with really long runs that go on for minutes at a time...
Then you get the crazy stunt runs that people will make to test the game's physics..

All of this is in reach, IF WE HAD THE EDITOR!

I didn't really use an editor to speak of when I did Extreme. I hacked together a tool spit out a bunch of 2D points from splines. The whole thing was kind of a hack job, really.

Sean Tublewicz has created an editor, though. He posted a few versions in the comments on the review. As far as I know this works--export will spit out the "go" file and the "gnd.pts" terrain data.

Download from www.fun-motion.com/files/SSMEv0.83.zip (http://www.fun-motion.com/files/SSMEv0.83.zip)

(Found on the Projects section on www.seantublewicz.com (http://www.seantublewicz.com))

The Go file and gnd.pts are just 2 of many files needed for a working map. I couldn't figure it out myself.

does anybody know how to get the maps working with this editor?
could anybody make a tutorial, how to edit maps (textbased - or make a working editor)
we are now waiting almost a year to get one.
what about the one where somebody from this site posted a screenshot of an editor?
this is such a great game which would be one of the greates with custom made maps!

I made a map using this program but when i try to play it, the game freezes. Can somebody make a working template with all the needed files where you can just add the gnd.pts in and it will work fine?

Edit:
I got the program to work. I had to use different go file for it not to freeze. I had to change the skiers coordinates in the go file and I had to delete the texture lines and add 2 more lines to make the level appear.

I wrote a short tutorial on how to make a level.

First make a level in the level editor. When you start in the editor, there should be a white square in the top left of the screen. This is where the skier starts. The W S A D move the screen around. The max buttons open up menus. Append point creates a new point at the end of the of the last point to the right. When your done with making your level you should press the save button and export. If you don't save your level, you won't be able to change it anymore.

Edit: http://www.fun-motion.com/forums/showthread.php?p=921#post921. There is a zip with a folder called MyMap and a file called beginner.tcl. Put the beginner.tcl in the folder skiStunt/scripts. Overwrite the existing file. Copy the MyMap folder into the Skistunt/scripts/ski/ folder.

In the level editor folder there should be a gnd.pts from the level you made. Copy them and put them MyMap folder you made. Overwrite the existing gnd.pts file. Open up ski stunt simulater and the map you made should be the first level in the beginner section.

edit: I tried what you said and when i go to load up the .exe the screen stays on the loading screen and the title ski stunt simulator 1.1 shows up on the top of the screen. Please help me out.

edit2: yippe and now i cant fix it...

Any solutions how to solve this?

I attached a working beginner.tcl and MyMap folder. When you make a level only copy the gnd.pts into it and not the go file.

The problem is that making a map is a very ime consuming business, which is why we haven't seen anymore custom maps...

xmatt
03-17-2007, 03:57 PM
If it doesn't show up it means you probably haven't put the beginner.tcl in the scripts folder. If ski stunt simulator does start and just freezes, it means that you put the beginner.tcl in the skistunt/scripts but didn't correctly put the MyMap folder in the skistunt/scripts/ski folder. Make sure that when you go into the MyMap folder that you should've placed in the skistunt/scripts/ski/ folder, there is all the files and not just another MyMap folder.

It'll probably work if you did everything I said. If it doesn't, you made a mistake.

In comparison to mapping for 3D games like HL:2, this is easy as pie. Just drag a line, add some points, drag some more, done: that's absurdly simple.

If you think this is hard to map for, you gotta get out more man.

Is there a way i can create a separate folder for each map so i do not have to replace the gnd.pnts each time?

exploit55
03-20-2007, 08:31 PM
ya. create a seperate folder and then just copy and paste them into it and rename them

It does not show up when i do that.
What do i name the separate folder and don't i need some other files to go into the folder?

I don't expect anyone knows how to make custom skiers, incidentally? Editing the skin .JPG alone doesn't work, it seems one must mess around with the data files as well somehow. :(

Hello all, this is my first post on here and I'm sorry for any difficulties with the editor. For those of you who haven't downloaded it I tried make the process of making maps as easy as I could at the time by releasing a built in editor. Matt was kind enough to review it and release it on his site. It can be found at http://www.fun-motion.com/files/skiStuntST.zip It's a collection of some new maps I created and the editor bundled with it. I'm still working on a new version so eventually maybe we'll all be able to create more intricate maps with ease.
