I love the idea of artificial intelligence, or artificial life, making use of physics. Framsticks is an a-life evolution sim (more an experiment than a game) in which creatures have to move their limbs effectively to move around and live efficiently. A little like a 3D version of sodaconstructor, only it's genetic mutation and evolution that's determining the creature's shapes. You can evolve generation after generation of creatures, picking the conditions that determine 'efficiency', until you have something interesting, be it some sort of spidery walker, worm-like creature, etc.

This has been around for a long while, there's been a lot of interesting stuff done with it. I found this fascinating when I discovered it, so anyone interested in a-life and evolutionary simulations should check it out. It might not be as graphical as you expect though, and it'll take a little bit of figuring out. I'm sure if you're interested enough in the topic you'll get into it though.

SPORE isnt that ai/evolution game? if it is someone should do a thred on that awesome game *edit* looks to complicated no download, untill someone says something about the learning curve

Framsticks looks very advanced, I don't think I'll download it. Spore will probably be pretty cool, though.

I tried this game-simulation thingy and it was weird really weird...

Yeah, I got the same feeling, it was some sort of Pond game.
Like the "life pond" simulators.

I didn't even get what you're supposed to do.

Wow looks really neat, seems like something that could be REALLY enjoyable after you get past the first 5 hour block of "not knowing what the **** to do". . .

. . .except in this game that 5 hour block is looking more and more like its going to be about 12 hours XD

This looks way too complicated.
I don't like the idea of the GUI for the game, a "theatre" and the viewer all being seperate.
What do I have to download to play the very basics of the program?
The idea does look intriguing, it just seems like it might be too advanced for someone like me.

Booting it up again just now for the first time in a long while.. yeah it is quite technical, isn't it. It's not exactly a 'game', as I said. It's a means to experiment with evolution and a-life in a physics enabled environment... and it does take a bit of figuring out. :p A lot of interesting stuff is possible with it though. Just wait for spore I guess if you like the idea but want actual gameplay.

If you're interested, Windows users, just download "Framsticks GUI", load a genotype like 'walkers', press play, maybe click the 'distance' tab in the bottom window to make creatures evolve to travel more distance.. and see how things work. As you get used to how it all works you can start experimenting and directing the evolution of your critters.

I guess avoid it though if you're not quite interested enough to spend a fair bit of time with it. I admit I'd forgotten that it is pretty numbery and a bit complicated. Hopefully someone out there likes it! I had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

And that makes sence? why did you randomly bump threads and have nothing useful to say?
