U should make it controlled like ski stunt extreme, that would be interesting. Otherwise it looks pretty cool, some two player action would be nice too, powerups, ect. But simple is good too. Any playable version yet? i kinda like the graphix as they are. Simple, classic, makes it seem like exite bike. Which is good. Well GL with that

Wow, looking good. Can't wait for playable demo. Just to mention, the ragdoll weirdly stops after a few seconds, like there would be a invisible wall.

This game looks like it will be THE physics motorcycle game. It looks so, so, SO incredibly good, that I am going to buy it....uh.....that's all I can say...but it looks REALLY good.

On another note, that is one of the best looking sites on your eyes I have ever seen! If you actually designed that site, you should become a web designer, not a game developer! (Make this game, first, though! :D )

Also, Muntu. It's gravel and dirt. I'm pretty sure it's friction, but it could just be a glitch in the physics at this point.

TobbeA
05-31-2007, 08:46 PM
Thanks, guys.

It IS actually controlled like ski stunt... + left mouse button for throttle, right mouse button for brakes.

Yes, it is gravel. Which has a pretty high friction constant at low speeds, and a lower at high speeds... I think it looks just right when he stops like that :D

When it is finished there will be four bikes in each race, you and three AI:s.

EDIT: The website was not designed by me, I bought a template and the only thing changed is the header.

Hmm, I'm very excited about this... Just tree things about the ragdoll that I think you could make better:

You should stop the ragdoll stopping after a few seconds of crashing.
You could increase the friction so that the ragdoll flips more (would look good with your choise of view)
Make the bike able to collide with the ragdoll instead of just rolling through it ..

Do these, and for me, a legend is born.

10/10 for physics integration :D
I've seen and played most motocross games like this one but judging by the trailer, yours might just come out on top.

It looks like you've gotten the gameplay and physics sorted out, you just need to work on the levels/maps and scenery.

Damn! Well, there goes my game, down the hole....

Sweet game. i've liked every motocross physics game like Ragdoll Trials and ElMa, but this looks the best, and the most realistic. Can't wait for the demo.

Looks really good, I like the shadows, and the dust behind the motocross. I'm satisfied with the ragdoll, it acts realisticly, don't change anything ! (perhaps collision between the bike and the ragdoll...)
You say you need an artist, but for now I don't see what's wrong with the graphics... just add a mesh to the bike and the ragdoll and everything should be fine.
Good luck in finishing/releasing this one !

Awesome.

PhysicsCite Bike?

Seriously, I think Excite Bike with ragdoll, and proper physics is the best idea since....Toribash even. I really need to think of good ideas sooner. -_-

Good going, will be waiting to see your releases.

Thank you all. Your suggestions are really good, and most welcome. Keep 'em coming. I knew I did the right thing by announcing it at these forums first :)

And yes, Excite Bike was a big inspiration for this.

Now breakless I know your a respected person on this forum so Ill go easy, I just have one thing about this post ;)

You want him to stop the ragdoll stopping (i gues you dont want it to stop so quickly and keep gliding a little longer? (Allways use your best grammar)
But you also want him to INCREASE the friction so it would bump more...

Those are the EXACT opposite, dont think you were really awake when you wrote it, or I just missunderstand you

I completly agree though about the bike collision :D

Someone said they wish they came up with good ideas sooner? From the second I saw Ski Stunt Simulator I had wished and hoped for a game almost exactly like this. Such a great idea and you guys have done a great job. There is only one thing I'm desperately hoping it does NOT have. And that is the editor is just me placing pre built jumps around like excitebike. What the game really needs to catch on are maps that are built like Ski Stunt Simulator. Maybe place prebuilt jumps as objects on the track but allow the user to really control the track. I believe if it only allows pre built jumps it's not going to last but if it does have ski stunt like maps then it'll really have a following. Just imagine a hill climb map. I think that'd be sweet. Or some downhill jumps. That is really the only thing I'm really really hoping for. Other then that the game looks awesome. I can deal with no other changes except the map one. However if you find yourself nitpicking and want to polish it up a little more I'd say do what the others suggest and have the ragdoll collide with the bike. On another note.... Will the ground be all one consistency? I mean if you are using physics and what not I'd imagine it'd be easy to allow for more slippery dirt like mud, sand, or hard packed dirt like clay since those are all things found in motocross. I'm just throwing out ideas here. Also how about a time trial mode with a ghost. It saves the fastest ghost. That way you can try a different line through a certain section and see if it's actually faster. It'd help you find the fastest way through a track. Ok that is all. Keep up the great work and I'll be eagerly waiting for this.

I think he meant the release date, which is scheduled for Q4 2007. Most likely beta in October and release in November/December.

Keep in mind that I am only one person doing all the coding, though, so that date could easily be pushed further into the future. The biggest issue right now is finding an excellent artist. It's hard, even though I am paying good money.

No worries though, it will be released and it will rock the independent gaming world. :D

Awesome game,

What I would personally like would be some kind of analog joystick support that would allow to lean 8 ways from a neutral/centered stance just like the mouse control. It would allow friends to join too.

Also it would be quite fun to use both race tracks and observed trial ones.

I'm definitely keeping an eye out for this promising project, keep up the good work :D

October -07 : Spices and Menus (http://turborilla.com/developer-diary/october--07--spices-and-menus.html)

It's mostly about spicing up the gameplay by adding various extras, and also about the menus. Two videos, one with some nice and not-so-nice maneuvers and another showing of the half-finished menu system.

We've also got a good discussion going about some very nice ideas by mctuble and others, don't miss the opportunity to voice your opinion on some important issues of the game.

I am currently working on the level editor. It's shaping up nicely and will be pretty useful, but it's a lot of work to make a nice and usable level editor.

What do you all think, is it important to have a level editor? You think anyone will use it?

The problem with an editor for a physics game is that it's very difficult to include constraints / validation to stop people building objects which your engine wasn't designed to handle - thus breaking the simulation.

That said, if the documentation gives you some tips of do's and don't then I guess your covered.

TobbeA
10-12-2007, 07:25 AM
Certainly. But this is only for the racing tracks, you can't build your own vehicles which would indeed be a hassle.

Later in the game if the biker falls and the bike breakes or something you could add small yellow particles as sparks from all the metal scraping against eachother, or if the suspension went down all the way?

It cant be that far until release. The things I see missing from the last beta would be:

All the maps (right now it's only 5, but he probably got alot already finished but waiting to show them until full release)

A real AI (now he's acting like a retard, but atleast you race someone )

After that it COULD be a first release. But Tobbe will probably fix all the achievements and stuff too before release

The project is far from dead, but since you all have been waiting so patiently I think you'll like these news: How to get a free beta of Mad Skills Motocross (http://turborilla.com/developer-diary/how-to-get-a-free-beta.html)

Hey, if any of you think this is proper news please post about it in a new thread in "Physics games" so more people get to see it. (I don't post so frequent so I don't want to upset anyone by starting a new thread about my own game)

We have another, secret game in the pipeline as well. One that is actually getting us money every month :) . We are bound by contract to not reveal anything about the nature of that project though.

Ha ha, I knew you would give in! Ever since that "Demo Release?" Topic I started in your forums, I could sense your weakness...

OK, I should shut up about this because 1. We still need about 900 Fans, and 2. He could ban me from it if I don't stop gloating... at my awesomeness.

That is one cool projection clock!

This clock projects the time, date, or temp on the wall or ceiling http://www.liangdianup.com/clocks_1.htm some people call
it a ceiling clock but I call it a digital projection clock. I got the black one because at the time that was the only color
they had. But now they have them in black and also in white.
