I have just fell to the awesome power of this game! The rules are simple, you're a god, set in a world to look after people, and gain power. Through the game you can be destructive/or creative, which turns you into being all around good or evil.
The physics in this game is what makes it a true gem, the hole idea of it would totally vanish. You use your "hand" to control elements in the world, hurdle the people, screaming and flipping across the map, hurl huge fire balls at your enemy's, and demolish houses. All of the above (and more) utilizing the physics engine.
Even if you don't like RTS games, this has something more to offer. You can zoom in really close, and interact with all the objects, you have more control over how your creature fights. (Every God has a creature to train, it's like a virtual pet that can eat people). It's simply not "boring" (Some people might call it slow paced), like most RTS games.
You still have your villagers needs to tend to. You'll preform "miracles", like "rain", "food", and "wood" to keep them supplied. They will have children and you will need to assign them to build more houses. Also you will need to have them worship you, because that is your main source of power. You can't cast a "miracle" if you don't have enough "power"!
Black & White 1 should run on anyones computer on highest settings, now a days. The textures and models are quite dated, but when you zoom out, it looks very beautiful.
My video card doesn't have support for Pixel Shader 1.1, so sadly, I'm not currently able to play number 2.
They're commercial retail games, that consist of:
Black & White, Black and White: Creature Isle (Expiation pack)
and then Black & White 2 along with the Black & White: Battle of the Gods (Expiation pack).
