View Full Version : BBcode HTML but not actual HTML?

In the sig portion of CP, it says that BBcode HTML is allowed, but actual html is not allowed? WTF
Does that mean I get to put HTML inside BBcode, but not just HTML? what's the point? Why can't I have HTML? I like HTML, it lets me do stuff that's annoying, like having 10 alerts in a row or something, or running infinite loops in javascript! It's fun and I should be allowed to do it.
Besides, what's the harm? all the forum has to store is the html file itself, not the crap it links to, right? so no size problems. And if you disable applets and objects, its completely 100% safe, so why can't I have html?

People can work around restrictions, you know. How many forums have you seen that actually allow HTML, let alone in sigs, which are attached to EVERY post a person makes. Believe me, I've been in a forum or two that tried to be nice by letting people use HTML. It was bedlam.
Also, your avatar scares me!!! :p

Love your sig!
Ok then, how would I work around the no HTML resriction?
I really want to have some HTML code attached to every post I make.
If not that, then at least javascript. I just learned javascript in school and I want to do something annoying with it.!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!1

Sorry for double post.
You can see that HTML code I put there, well I want something similar to that to be run every time someone looks at one of my posts. ofcourse I'd cap the number of alerts at 7, and the linked Gif would be much much larger and more interesting, but that's the general idea.

You fool. Why is Matthew going to allow you to attach HTML/JavaScript that is potentially harmful? The HTML and JS you posted is also incorrect. You can't have multiple <html>,<head>, and <body> tags. They've already been loaded when you've opened the page.
People like you are a disgrace to public forums. "i jus watn html so i can annyo evry1 waaahhh waaahhh waahhh"

First of all, my typing has very few spelling mistakes.
Second, I wrote that in about 30 seconds, so don't lecture me about syntax.
Third, HTML and Javascript are powerful tools that can be used for good as well as for evil. Enabling them would allow much more creativity to come to this forum, and it'd give Matthew a reason to ban alot of people for misuse.
Finally, I put the HTML and body tags there because I meant to present it as a complete self contained page. With a few syntax corrections, you could copy-paste that into a new document and have a working web page.
Also, people like you are a disgrace to public forums. This is just your 6th post and you're flaming me? These entire forums are about creative open-minded ideas. Mostly it's physics in games, but nobody will criticize you for going a bit off topic. That's the general idea here.
Now, if you've got something useful to contribute, please do so. Otherwise shut up and go away.

Zcool does have a point.
Unless you have a very good valid reasons beside what he said then I doubt you really have this on the upper hand.
You're basically going a little too far.

That's true. You can spell. Although the last sentence in my post was directed at all the people who come onto these forums asking and whining for a specific-something.
I did get a little out of hand, but hey, nothing to cry over.

HTML = security risk.
HTML = usually annoying.
Your sig you tried to use would be hell of annoying. THAT'S why we don't allow HTML. You want HTML? Go make a web page. Don't bother us on here.
Seriously, anything you want except annoying things can already be done with BBCode and others. Javascript wouldn't be allowed in HTML posts anyhow, y'know. VBulletin doesn't display Javascript. Only HTML.

I like IMG tags if people don't go over the top with their sigs, but full on HTML? No thanks.

Quite true, quite true. Does anyone know a good site for learning BBcode?
www.w3schools.com is great for HTML and javascript, but as for BBcode I don't have a clue. Would be nice to do something creative with it though.

I agree, I want to be able to have images in my Sig, I could care less about HTML.
If there ever is the ability to use the img tag some how limit it to one.

I was under the impression BBcode was a substitute markup language for HTML made for forums, but it can only do text effects (i.e. size, italic, bold, underline, hyperlink, code, strike through, etc., along with image embedding), and ONLY text effects. I don't think you can really have pop-up windows or anything fancy with it.. Or am I wrong?

You're right.
BB-Code is done like this:
[*B]bolded text[/B]
[*I]Italiced text[/I]
[*U]Underlined text[/U]
etc, and so on and so forth.
Remove the *.
Also, nothing more than that. Javascript, pop-up images and so on are impossible with BBCode, and it's good that they are.
