Interesting. This sounds like a nice game idea to revitalize an area of physics that has been overused. I have some multiplayer game modes for ya:

Deathmatch: "Upgrades" would be raining from the sky around the map every so often. Everybody just runs around and massacres one another, swinging like mad.

Race/Timed: Two or more characters either are racing each other in real time, against each other, or are racing individually against the clock, and the person with the best time wins.

Co-Op (of course): Do I really have to explain this?

P.S.- You gave me a reason to use my new Word 2007! Hooray!

This reminds me of a flash game were you have 2 wires (one in each hand) and you have to hook them to high objects to move forward in this floorless world. I think it was called highwire.
But your idea is like that mixed with gish.

But I would have to say it would make a good game :)

It was Double Wires. Made by the same guy as Falling Sand, Cat with Bow Golf, War of the Hell, Cat Sledding, etc.

This reminds me of a flash game were you have 2 wires (one in each hand) and you have to hook them to high objects to move forward in this floorless world. I think it was called highwire.
But your idea is like that mixed with gish.

But I would have to say it would make a good game :)

Right under the title it says this may sound similar but I do not want it to be like that, those games are fun but get boring and repetitive VERY quickly, I want it to feel more like Gish and not like Double Wire that'd means it'd also be more relaxed and not so pressured to hurry to the end.

I like the race idea, that's a keeper, It'd could be split screen like Gish (you'll get credit).
When I say upgrades I meant new abilities or weapons I can see weapons raining down as an option though and I'd figure there to be 2-4 player multiplayer, this game is probably going to be harsh on some comps.
The way the arms will work is not like rubber string but like a paddle ball where you shoot them out and they come back.
I'd like some form of Co-Op and it'd possibly work similar to LittleBig Planet but you'd fling each other around. I don't think that'd be possible though and it'd be to much extra work on top of what I already have written out to make it as a separate game mode.

sounds like spider man to me. Make it so that your'e able to detacck ur arms, but u only have one pair of arms. Detach to maybey, attach to sumones face and hit them, make a slingshot, use it as a lever/ wheight to open doors. And make a skills page like:

Strechy Arms- 300
Makes you arms able to reach farther

Slingshot-500
Makes you able to build a slingshot out of your detached arms.

Anyways, feel free to use these ideas, and im exited to see this game! =p

Check out the game Ristar it'll give you a sense of what I'm trying to explain, it will be nothing like spider man.
The detaching arm thing sound pretty cool but it'd be very hard to implement and let's say you accidentally drop one down a pit or you loss it, that sort of thing would piss me off knowing that now I have to restart the level because I lost my arm.
I want to stray away from any feeling of failure or frustration when playing the game, it will still be a very challenging platformer with some complex puzzles but you won't have a point system (maybe) and you will not be timed, that sort of thing rushes you through a level with out really playing and enjoying it.
I gave an example of a slingshot type move under the Game play section of the Word doc.
Oh yea and just so you knoe I wrote out this game plan prior to playing Ristar, it was just a coincidence that the idea was similar.

Aw thats too bad, no more spiderman. Well wat u could do with the detached arms is u could use ur other arm to grab it and bring it back =p well jsut some ideas, but i like it so far. Have u started programing?

No not at all, it's almost summer so my friend and I are gona discuss the design and the story, he's uber talented.

I knew what you meant by the detached arm but again that could get complicated and what I meant is if you dropped it into a pit were you couldn't possibly get it.

well u could jump over the pit and grab it with ur stretchy hand or make a special thing where u can make ur hand bend around corners to get ur oter hand out of the pit... well DW, drom the idea.

Don't get me wrong that's a great idea but it's not exactly what I want to do for right now at least, later on we may change some things there could be something like this but for now we're going to keep it simple.

an obstical that I think would be cool in the game is a horizontal pole that you could grab onto and spin around until you have enough cetrifical force to fling yourself somewhere

You'll probably not see anything for at least a year, I made this game idea so I can eventually make it cause I really want to but no time soon.

I like the BloodSack enemy idea... you should include a sandbox mode where you can just mess around with the enemies and objects and stuff. Like, your character would be invincible and you could conduct "expeirements" on the enemies.

DUH, of course there'll be a sandbox mode, one thing I wanna say if I didn't say it in the descriptions was that for example if you were to take a weapon and shoot a 'blood sack' enemy it would slowly deflate as the blood came spurting out, like a water balloon :)

And as for the spawning thing, I don't quit knoe what your asking, there would be a way to keep a glitch like that from happening. There could be an enemy though that well grow when in contact with a certain 'blood sack' enemy, if that's what you mean.

Dammit, you got a point. Seriously though I came up with this idea before I ever played Ristar and I hadn't even seen One Piece in forever so I wasn't even thinking about that.

That's cool thanx for your suggestion but shorts aren't what I’d want it to wear and I don't remember if I had this in the description but if the characters going to be humanoid I’d want to have a Boondocks style look to him.

I think it's easy to come up with hundreds of good ideas - the hard work starts when you get into actually coding them all ;) I'd suggest that you and your mate make a stripped down prototype to prove the concept sooner rather than later. This could be potentially a huge project so it's best to know at the outset whether it's going to work & that your ambitions don't exceed your capabilities.

Don't get me wrong, getting a design doc down is a great start and one which I rarely could be arsed doing - to my detriment. This used to result in me shoehorning new features into an engine that wasn't designed with them in mind. At worst a complete rewrite was required.

Thanks, one of my biggest fears was actually losing interest but I think I am very excited about it, honestly right now I have no experience or capabilities and that's the main reason why I said this might not be in production for another year, cause I gotta learn. But your right I need to get some sort of proof of concept work out there. And another problem is I don't know what sort of program to use, for the real game and the concept game, I was thinking Flash for concept though. And trust me I've been looking around for some sort of program but I'm having troubles finding something that fits for what I think I'm looking for.

I just added this to the doc, I'm thinking about making the character 3d or even a 2d texture with shaders on it to make it look 3d or give it that realistic feel to it, the reason I wanna go possibly 3d is because I love the look of 3d characters in a 2d side scroller and it would make it easier for the tween level, with the open environment, it could be simple third person view.

This is a HUGE project but once I get a solid presentation for it with all the details I believe other people will want to help and make it a real game.
