A sport game does not have killing or anything so there will not be many.

If I am not mistaken I think that Madden games have so degree of ragdoll but mostly animation.

There's always Sumotori Dreams.
It basicly a sumo with two self righting (drunken) ragdolls, it quite fun:

....what? sumo is a sport.

The latest Tony Hawks game on Xbox 360 and PS3 (not sure about previous gen consoles) has this task where your character gets launched down the hill as a ragdoll and you have to steer it left and right to smash through gates.

I loved the ragdoll physics in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 on Xbox/PS2. Whenever you fell from your bike, you went into ragdoll mode, but you could also press L and R together to throw yourself off the bike for fun. I loved messing around with that, especially jumping into traffic haha. Also, if you held the Y button, the ragdoll would grab onto the nearest thing and hold on. It was hilarious grabbing on to a moving car. If it didn't have such fun ragdoll physics I wouldn't have played it nearly as much as I did.

Aah, Dave Mirra <3 I loved the canyon map! Jumping off the cliff and grabbing on to a branch and releasing to do a nice flip :)

On the NaturalMotion site, they have a demo video available showing to guys playing football and tackling each other. It used Euphoria, and the results were amazingly realistic. I hope they use that in a game, one day. (Madden NFL '09? '10?)

Fight Night Round 3 is a good choice. It has some fun ragdolls when someone's knocked out. The way your boxing glove and face jiggle on impact is great fun!

I have that game! Me and my friends always plaed wipeout on the motorway level. Where who ever had the most painfull crash won! Brilliant!

I'd like to see a comeback of that series, also the first one had ragdoll physics too, not as well done, mind...

Does that mean the PSX version had ragdolls or was it just on the PC? I remember some old motorcross games on the PC from the late 90's had ragdolls. But yeah I spent hours on that motorway level, it was absolutely hilarious haha.

Same here! In fact I thought it was the first game with ragdoll ever, but apparently Jurrasic Park: Trestpasser (if that's the way you spell it) beat dave to it... I've never played that game

Besides that, there's not much use for physics in sports (or many) games.

That's just not true, you need gravity for tennis, kinetics for snooker and a whole physics system for racing.
Now if you said 'there's not much use for ragdolls in sports games' then I would agree with you.

Yes, that's all true, but there is a HUGE CALLING for euphoria in spors like football (or 'Soccer) American football, winter sports... When will they realise this...

Maltor124
05-26-2007, 04:53 PM
Agreed. Any contact sport, or any sport where you can even fall down, or stumble, would be great with Euphoria. Heck, ANY sport game could use Euphoria in some way.

I think I would actually enjoy playing football games if you could plow into your appoint and watch him go flying! Ragdoll physics would really be good in contact sports!

I'd like to have physics in basketball games, rather than animations. Shooting gets boring when you always know precisely if your shot is going to go in or not, after playing for a while.

But then the players would have to interact with the ball so to make it look natural they would have to have a load of animations them self. Unless you really went for it and make the players dynamic ragdolls, that would be a pretty good basketball game.

Yeah, it would be freeking hard thou. It would be nice if they would just put some more advance physics, like cloth in the background etc.

Actually, what it uses is endorphin, and you can get that for free at the website http://www.naturalmotion.com

Actually, Endorphin itself is a pretty pricey investment, but the Learning Edition is free.

lol cloth in the background.
How would that make a game anymore interesting? who cares if there's simulated cloth flapping about in the background?

every little helps ;) but I must admit it would seem a little useless, maybe put cloth simulations on the cloths so they flap a bit.
That wouldn't look too bad.

I suppose, but what's so impressive about phyiscs being integrated into a game in a superficial way?
The physics aspects of a game should be fully incorporated into the gameplay itself, not just the graphics.

short answer, because it would be hard.
If you would try to do that with (lets say) a basketball game there could be millions of possibilities that you would have to be ready for, and that's just if you use physics on the ball

Wii boxing doesn't have any physics, but most, if not all, bowling games do. I reccommend the excellent shareware title, Gutterball 2 (http://games.skunkstudios.com/games/gutterball2)

u could use physics on anything with a ball, or clothes for that matter, but anything where a player could potentially get hit by something could use some nice physics too. Just an idea =p

Relys
05-28-2007, 04:25 AM
It might look rather crappy, but you could have it so the ball has a magnetic connection at a close distinctest. Directing the ball to the proper spot of the hand to start the animation.

If they didn't implement that correctly, that would turn out awful. The ball would be floating towards the players! Euphoria, and maybe Endorphin, too, (But this time I really mean Euphoria.) would be good for any game where you have to get something. It would allow the player to wildly lurch/dive/swing/towards whatever they need to get, without a single preset animation, making it far more realistic.

Yeah, I saw that Indiana Jones game demo. He was able to stand up with the rocks rolling to him, and grab the edge of the bridge when he fell.

Pretty fun in the beginning until you hit top 50 and everything is impossible. physics Cloth for clothes which is just beautiful to watch and probably collisions for the ball...
