What is Scribblenauts?
It's a puzzle game where you must collect an object called a starrite using any means necessary.

Is that it? What's the big deal?
You can summon almost anything.

LIKE CHUCK NORRIS!!!!1!
No, but it has Keyboard Cat.

I don't understand summoning.
On the bottom screen there is a keyboard which you use to type in words to summon. It includes a spellchecker for those of us who can't spell ray gun (raygun? It's so confusing!).

WHAT IF I SUMMON TRUE LOVE???
True love is an abstract, like bravery, or hate. Anything you summon you have to be able to touch or see.

How many summons can you have on the screen at one time?
20-24, although some stages make it so you have to use a small amount of items.

Why is this game called Scribblenauts?
The original plot had Maxwell as an astronaut using the power to summon anything he writes to rescue stars from various planets. This plotline has been scrapped, but they liked the title enough to keep it.

When does it come out?
In the US it comes out September 15, in Europe it comes out on the 25th.

And Australia?
Sometime in September, no release date confirmed yet.

What's it rated?
E10

So you're sure there's no Chuck Norris
No but topics about Chuck Norris (Is there gonna be Chuck Norris, CHUCK NORRIS!, Stop talking about chuck norris, who is ChucK Norris!?..) pop up to often and tend to make regular users of the board angry, so try to resist making a topic with his name in it.

Surely they can't have everything
You would be surprised, from what we know there isn't going to be anything vulgar (remember it's E10) and they obviously can't use anything copyrighted, nor will they be using most people/celebrities.

So how do they fit all those objects and all their traits in the game?
An item classification program called Objectnaut was created specifically for this game. Every item in the game is assigned various categories, and these categories are in turn placed into even larger categories. For example, let's say there are only two item categories in the game (there are obviously a lot more, but for examples' sake): "made of wood" and "flammable". Anything made of wood would naturally be flammable, but instead of classifying every wooden item in both categories individually, they can simply place the "made of wood" category into the "flammable" category. This way classifying items is quite easy.

I was just thinking, its not possible that they have THAT much stuff.
The list goes over 10,000. It's possible because they hired artists to do quick drawings of anything someone tried to summon that wasn't in the game. Hence, you know Cthulu.

How many levels are there?
According to a few interviews there will be 220. You can also replay them for extra benefits, such as merits, which you can read about below. The game will also include a level editor, in which you can (obviously) create your own levels, as well as edit creatures likes and dislikes.

Likes and Dislikes?
Every creature has likes and dislikes, Lumberjacks hate trees, Sharks hate fish (fishes?), and Cops like donuts.

What will the general level be like?
They vary, here's a list of a few different confirmed levels.

-Give the people tools that match (It has a few generic jobs, Fireman, Chef, Police Officer. etc)

-Refresh the man in the desert (You can give him water, or an oasis, or something along those lines)

-Get a starrite out of the tree (Ladder, Beaver, Lumberjack, you get the idea)

-There's a starrite on one side of the map, and a bunch of zombies blocking your way.

-The Lava Level (http://www.edge-online.com/features/scribblenauts-competition)

So can I mix stuff together?
Yes. You can mix a unicycle with a panda, then have another ride the panda, give the character a top hat and then glue a stick to it, while he's riding the second panda.

Seriously?

Who's the main character
http://cache.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/161736_S/Scribblenauts-for-the-Nintendo-DS.jpg
His name is Maxwell, he's the one who isn't a tree.

What's up with the rooster hat?
We don't know, what we do know is that after completing levels you get Ollars. Ollars can be used to purchase new items (hats, clothes and the like).

So how many Ollars do I get for finishing a level?
No idea. The concept is that you can use a certain amount of summons in a level, depending on how many you summon, as well as how cheap they are (Read: Black Hole is cheaper than, say a badger) will determine your score, the higher your score, the more Ollars you'll collect.

Is there any replayability?
After you've finished a level you can go back and play it again for rewards which are called merits. Of course, you have to use new items as well.

CAN MASTER CHIEF MAKE BABIES WITH SAMUS IN THIS GAME?
No.

How do I control the game?
The game is controlled almost entirely with the DS' Touch Screen. The D-Pad and buttons seem to do little besides move the camera. Touch an area and Maxwell moves there. Touch an item and a list of possible interactions will pop up, et cetera.

How do I write words in?
You have your choice of writing them in letter-by-letter with the stylus or entering them in on a keyboard. Interestingly, even though Nintendo already has an engine designed to read handwriting (as used in Brain Age), 5th Cell made their own handwriting engine from scratch because they believed Nintendo's was unsatisfying.

So what is the plot?
It's not known yet, but it's really not that big of a deal.

I know you said no copyrighted characters, but what about Nintendo characters? I mean, it is on the DS.
Aside from being on the DS, Nintendo has no involvement with this game. And they're really not keen on letting other developers just use their characters in the company's own games (For example, Link and Samus were planned to be in the Wii version of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, but Nintendo wouldn't let it happen). Ultimately, putting Nintendo characters in would be disadvantageous to all parties. 5th Cell would have to pay a large amount of money to put in something the game would do fine without, and Nintendo would be loaning out their characters for something that likely wouldn't draw much attention to them (the main reason they'd want to do such a thing).

OK, but what about 5th Cell characters? Could we see Lock or a Raposa?

Generally the publisher keeps the rights to a video game, not the developer. Drawn to Life and Lock's Quest were both published by (and thus owned by) THQ, and Scribblenauts is published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. As unfair as it seems, 5th Cell isn't allowed to use their own characters.

Well, if it's published by Warner Bros., could we see Time Warner characters? Like Batman or Bugs Bunny?
That's possible, yes, but just because they can doesn't mean they should. This game doesn't need copyrighted characters to be good, and the people asking for them seem to be missing the point. This is a platformer/puzzle game based on the premise of summoning any item you want to assist you, not some giant crossover fighting game. If you want that, play Super Smash Bros. or Marvel vs. Capcom. Nothing copyrighted. End of discussion. Sorry to hammer that into the ground, but it needed hammering.

Some of those questions were a little unnecessary. "CAN MASTER CHIEF MAKE BABIES WITH SAMUS IN THIS GAME?", does that really need to be asked?

This is the only reason I'm keeping my DS, the last game I purchased for the DS was New Super Mario Bros.

Buy GTA Chinatown Wars. It's great. As for Scribblenauts, looks awesome and always has. Can't wait.

Yeah, except this is taken directly from GameFAQs in this (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=955689&topic=50507983) thread.

Hewg, I noticed you didn't include this part:

"This FAQ was written by JackThorn and Psycho Kirby. It includes questions from beserker_ninja and BadInfluence376. And corrections from GeneralSpoon and Sforzato. "
