Physics for Halo 3.

I went to some of the E3s presentations and found alot of cooler physics as in the ragdoll is improved, and better vehicle deformation physics than in
Halo 2. I've also heard of like, the spawnable launchpad that you can put anywhere on the floor and stuff so it will launch the shit out of you. (EVEN BETTER IN A WARTHOG OR MONGOOSE).

I'm going to post a video on the Halo 3 Public Multiplayer Beta that is realeased on May 16th through June 6th.

I would have never thought to put a H3 topic, but just because I wasn't thinking of the physics.
But now that I remember the videos, Halo 3's physics are awesome... the ragdolls have most definitely improved. Halo 2 Warthogs were always fun, but the better physics along with the more detailedness of the hog, it looks much funner. Oh, and that Mongoose. Can't wait!

I didn't like the vehicle physics in Halo 2 mostly because it ruined destruction derby on Blood Gulch. Crashing didn't send you flying anymore and vehicles would blow up. It annoyed me. All in all, I didn't like the multiplayer in Halo 2.

The ragdoll in the beta videos has been a bit buggy, but because it's a beta, that's understandable.

What I DO really like about what I've seen/heard from Halo 3 is the snow and the water.

I had one of the friends and family beta codes (I got one for sho' because I'm a moderator on the Bungie.net forums) but I don't have a 360. Now I'm wishing I did! Halo 3 looks great!

I can't wait for this beta. many things will be very interesting pertaining to the physics. For example, in a Bungie Weekly update, they stated that you would be able to activate a shield grenade, and if it's on a hill, say you are playing CTF, you can run down the hill the with the shield grenade as it rolls! I can't wait to do that. I can picture the n00bs saying: "OMG YOU STUPID N00B HOW YOU DO THAT! YOU NEED A LIFE YOU HACKED THE BETA LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!"

Like I said, can't wait. Also, if there are birds in the sky (which there are), in a weekly update they said you could shoot them down, and if you had enough time on your hands, and could reach them, you could eventually find them. Sci-Fi Duck Hunting FTW!

The said on support that they have maitenence going on it so you cant sign in or create an account.(i think) so a while later i found a sign up, but it was for SILVER version. 1.The support people wont pick up, 2.I'm connected to xbox live and stuff, but, I can't find a sign up for GOLD version on xbox.com.

On your 360: Press the middle Xbox Guide button, go to your profile (at the top of the Xbox Guide), then go to 'Account Management.' Once there, go to 'Subscriptions,' and you should be able to figure it out from there... you need a credit card that way, though.
Or you can just go to the store and buy an Xbox Live prepaid subscription card.

By the way, you do have a copy of Crackdown or an invite code, right? Because there's no other way into the beta otherwise. :P

Halo 3 Beta Downloads via Crackdown are fixed!

It's been a long day for a lot of people but we're happy to announce that effective immediately, a title update for Crackdown is available on Xbox Live that will fix the issue that previously prevented you from downloading the beta. The Microsoft team just deployed this fix and when you launch Crackdown you should receive a prompt to download the update.

Please note that it could take up to four hours for your console to receive this update based on various factors. However, the good news is that we're in the clear and Halo 3 gameplay is just over the horizon.

We realize this has been a pain for many and an inconvenience at the very least. Given the circumstances, we've decided to extend the duration of the Halo 3 Beta from June 6th to June 10th at 11:59 PM PDT. So, you lost almost a full day of play today but to make up for it we're tacking on four more days (and a weekend at that).

We apologize for the delay and hardships this issue has caused and hope that it quickly becomes a distant memory clouded by good times playing Halo 3 with your friends.

Note : A rare bug has been discovered that sometimes results in improper text display in the game UI. Basically, you won't see any text at all. If you encounter this issue, you can fix it yourself by doing the following:

1. Restart your Xbox 360
2. Boot up the Halo 3 Beta
3. While the Halo 3 Beta is loading, immediately press up on the D-Pad and hold the A button until you see the Bungie logo. If you perform this correctly a dialog box will appear confirming maintenance has been done to your system.
4. Resume the Halo 3 Beta!

Well, I'm back from the front. And I was about to lay down and shoot myself before, thank GOD I downloaded it. It's really just amazing. I love the new controller style, along with the graphics, physics, etc. It does feel rather sluggish when you run, at least compared to Halo 2. And the ragdolls are REALLY buggy, but it is a beta, so this comes expected. A thing I like is that in the map Snowbound, the grenades you throw (even if they are not sticky, spike, etc.) get stuck in the snow. It's been great so far, and they also extended it to June 10th! So I'm a happy camper. :D

Also, you fail me, what I think you are talking about is the Family and Friends program? That was when the family and friends of the developers got instant access to the beta. Otherwise, your done, sorry, unless you buy a specially marked copy of Crackdown. But I think the stores are cleaned out of them, and they are going on EBay for about $200 each now, I think. Unconfirmed, though.

It wouldn't be Halo as you know it.

Imagine a Halo with a more realistic concept of friction, of what it means to change from a standstill to a dead run, of what it actually means to run into a wall or another player. Imagine that FPS games had you experience the effect of being pushed by an object that collides with you -- it's usually non-existent (player-player collision in Halo) or causes instant death (player-vehicle collision in Halo). If you run at full tilt directly into a wall, guess what? You don't actually stick to it! You either break through it (hardcore!) or you bounce off, and either way probably hurts like hell if you don't have a helmet.

I think it's great that you can, y'know, use gravity in games; it's pretty handy for making trajectory calculations on grenade throws and jumping. I like that the one-way shields and launchpad item are toying with the physics of the system, but they're external set pieces. Vehicle deformation is cool but typically more cosmetic in nature; I would enjoy being proven wrong and being able to disable vehicles by taking out the correct areas. My main beef is that the player character rarely, rarely interacts in a physical manner with the environment.

Until, of course, you get sniped from across the map and your body crumples to the floor. Hurray for physics in gameplay.

Yesterday I pre-ordered the Legendary Edition of Halo 3, and I must say I don't really look forward to this game for its physics. (I know I know, I'm a blasphemer for not caring about physics in a game.) I'm looking forward to it for, well, Halo 3! What else could you want?! I also am looking forward to the MC Helmet and the HD Version of Halo and Halo 2. Those will be nice.

Yeah, when I was yammering about Halo physics before, it was actually directed at almost every FPS. I can understand the difficulties inherent in programming FPS titles to behave as I suggested -- mainly the fact that you lose an almost proprioceptive sense of reference in first-person, so it's difficult to determine exactly how far it is from your "eyes" to a point of contact with an obstacle.

Also, I'm still riled up by an "airing of grievances" thread on the 1UP forums -- I'm totally a victim here. :P

Physics issues aside, I'm stoked for the game -- provided that I find a friend to bum off of, or that I end up getting an X360.

Yes, you are right. The programming difficulties are enourmous. Depth perception is difficult to calculate. But that would be awesome if they found a way to implement that, but I don't think that the gamming community would find that very good as a whole. I mean I would be seriously pissed off if I were running from someone and I hit a wall and end up getting killed by the wall.

Well Halo 3 is as close as ever and every minute it looks better and better. But the real reason I bumped this is for the (fairly) new info about the new vehicle the elephant and the new map editor Forge.

Forge (Taken from halo wiki): "Forge is a "map editor" that can be used to edit multiplayer maps. When you start forge you take the role as a monitor. You get to fly around the map in real time (like your actually playing the game) and can place, grab, move, or delete objects from the map. The items can be crates, barricades, fusion cores, and even spawn/capture points. You can place weapons, equipment, and vehicles (except the elephant. Everything can be edited like ammo count, respawn times, and other things. You only have a certain amount of points until you can't purchase any more objects for the map.

At any time you can push up on the D-pad and turn into your normal multiplayer character and start playing the level. You can do this over Xbox Live, System Link, and Splitscreen. Anyone can play and edit with you. Forge also keeps track of the score and kills for you too. While your editing you can even create your own "gametypes" per say. An example would be an RTS Slayer match. Each team has one monitor who builds things for the team to use. The monitor can also delete things from the other team as well. Although none of these will ship with the game you can recreate them yourself.

Once you're done editing a map in Forge, you can pass it on to your friends through Halo 3's file share to use in normal custom games. Bungie.net will serve as a hub to find user-created stages as well. They'll have an area for Bungie-recommended maps that are made by the community, and they'll have a way for you to search for others. Once you tag a level for download on Bungie.net it'll automatically transfer to your Xbox 360 hard drive the next time you log into Xbox Live and start up Halo 3."

Err, I will try the game though. I'm not saying halo is a bad series or game or whatever. I just don't like overhyped games. I actually bought the $60 version of halo 2 on release day "Nov 9th" with all the extra stuff in it expecting it to be as awsome as 1. The storyline was...ok and the good thing about it was its multiplayer which I was called a sword nublet because I only used the sword or the magnum pistols.

So I'm saying in general, because of the hype for halo 2 which was a huge letdown...I'm not really too hyped for 3. I'm actually glad UT3 isn't as hyped as halo 3. I love the UT series and all, but I'd rather not have my favorite game infested with almost all ages and kids who think they're better.

Believe it or not, Unreal Tournament is the best multiplayer game. It was MADE/BUILT/CONSTRUCTED mainly for multiplayer.

I can guarantee you that Unreal Tournament 3 will win a good amount of multiplayer awards. I even say more than Halo 3.

I only own Unreal Tournament and played the demo of Unreal Tournament 04. Maybe the full version is better, but the maps in it were really bland. The maps are almost too big. I barely saw any enemies. In Halo its constant action. And the original Unreal Tournament was pretty much just Quake 3 with different weapons and a few more game modes. Its pretty good though. I own both of those for the Dreamcast. :D

Unreal Tournament 3 does look pretty good though. But check this out. "UT3 will be coming this November for the PS3 and PC, and at a later date still to be announced for the XBox 360."

But although I will say that the xbox has alot more good games but I would rather buy 1 PS3 than 3 xbox's. In a few weeks or so (?), I believe the Xbox 360's with smaller processors and less fans are coming out. That means a less overheating, quieter, Xbox. Also, the RRoD problem was fixed a while ago. The majority of new 360's won't be having that problem anymore. Unless you leave it on for like 36 hours or turn it off while saving or something, but that's stupid.

You missed the whole point. They put auto-aim in there because it's so hard to actually aim. On the PC you have a mouse, which makes it much more easier to aim.

1) Mouse and keyboard support
and
2) Mod-support. Which means that every mod modders have made for PC version of UT3, will work on PS3 version too.
So I don't see any reason why I shouldn't buy it for PS3.

And some FPS are great on consoles. Quake 3 for Dreamcast is really good. The controls work and it easy to aim. Star Wars Battlefront. Half Life 2. It was good but the framerate was a little slow.

I don't know what recreational drugs your doing but Halo 3 is going to be way better then Halo 2 (and very different). First of all there are better GRAPHICS (your welcome) second of all the campaign finally ends the Halo trilogy, third of all there is 4 player coop (really thats just awsome), fourth of all is the awsomeness of the forge system, (partial level editor, manipulation of all weapons and objects just no actual texture or building/layout/ground moving) fifth of all is the awsome new gadgets, (bubble shield, trip mine, some kind of shield killing nade, and some other crap) new hand grenades, weapons, support weapons, (flamethrower, mounted turret you can carry around- Human/covenant versions, rocket/missle pod thingy), vehicles, maps, new trueskill based ranking system. Probably some stuff I missed but yea thats like 3/4 of it. ^^

Well I might as well be the one. Here, I sort of hid it, because I'm not a total ass hole. :p

"So, we start off with Cortana telling us why she picked John 117, and what he had that no one but her saw: Luck. We then witness our dear Spartan crashlanding into a jungle. Sergeant Major what's-his-name (the cool black dude everyone's so fond of) and his squad pick John up and bring him back to normal, at which point he also gets to see the Arbiter again, and find out that "they're with us now". You then fight yourself back to base, where Master Chief barely gets briefed before the whole place is overrun by Covenant forces. You get to shoot some guns and throw some 'nades and before you know it you've armed a bomb that's gonna blow the whole place to smithereens. Enter: Level 3, where you're going hog wild with the Warthog, racing down highways, beating stuff up, et cetera. You do a bunch of semi-important "oh and btw uhh new objective" stuff such as taking down an Anti Air cannon, while the Covenant is still digging happily into whatever the hell it is that's buried deep under Africa.

And then they light it. Now, the general theory is that, duh, that's The Ark, and it's here on Earth, and goddamn did the Prophet of Truth just fire all the goddamn rings in the entire universe from The Ark? But f*ck us, we were all wrong. Turns out that wasn't really The Ark after all! Instead, it lighted up the sky, and brought upon us a motherf***in black hole teleport portal, which some Covenant ships dive into to figure out just what the f*ck is going on. However, there's a ship coming out of the portal as well ...

Yes. The f*cking flood, they're back again, and goddamn if you're not gonna backtrack through the area you just finished to fight some more flood. I'm being completely honest when I say that they're not nearly as annoying as before. Could be that you now actually have people on your side as well, could be that they're better balanced, could be lots of things. Anyway, you eventually board the godawful ship the crashed into your beautiful planet, and lo and behold, there's a message from Cortana aboard.

Basically, she's saying that the solution to all this is through that portal, and that we must risk everything, blabla. Seing as Master Chief is one charismatic bastard, we go through, and my oh my, end up at some distant place in space, at another Forerunner built structure: No, not another Halo, but The Ark. It's kinda similar to the Halos, in that it's created by the Forerunners, but has a different shape I'm not quite sure how to describe. You crashland and fight some covenant sh*t, revisit places that remind you alot of Halo (you need to get a cortagropher, for example) and pull some wires to get inside some important places, and you even team up with the flood while you're rushing the Prophet of Truth (which is just chillaxin here at The Ark), which the Arbiter eventually kills. So yay, right?

No, not yay, not yay at all actually, because Gravemind and the Flood just turned evil again, and goddammit you're so tired of this sh*t, and then another, unfinished Halo replacement ring (yes, yes, yes) rises up from the ocean of The Ark. So you're thinking "oh sh*t lets get out of here Gravemind is here remember" but then you're all like "oh sh*t Cortana I miss her" and you go on a journey deep within this hellhole to find Cortana, and you do. So you get the f*ck off the Ark, get on the Ring, meet up with 343 Guilty Spark at one point as well, and you're gonna light the f**ker. As you guys remember, you need all 7 rings to blow up the universe, while a single ring will just blow up sh*t that's in its immidiate vicinity. So you board the goddamn ring (also forgot to mention, but that female captain you work closely with? Yeah, Prophet of Truth killed her), and the Flood is dropping pods on your ass like nobody's business, but you meet up with that black Sergeant Major (Johnson, is that his name? I'm real bad at names, sorry) and you're all set to activate the ring when 343 proclaims the ring to be ready in "a couple of days". After realising that you don't actually have a couple of days, sh*t goes bad and 343 tries to kill you all. However, you are the hero and therefore you win. However, activating the ring prematurely will result in not only the destruction of everything that's close by, but also, tadada, The Ark, for some reason. This however is just dandy, seing as Gravemind is still on the goddamn Ark.

So you activate it, and run like f*ck. PS: Johnson died. And so, the best f*cking finale they could have ever pulled off: The last section is a getaway on a warthog, just like in Halo. And goddamn, it's glorious. There's no timer (except Cortana frantically yelling "go go go go!" all the time), and even some checkpoints en route. So you barely make it, land in the ship Johnson left behind, Arbiter gets in the driving seat and speeds off towards the portal.

So, cut to memorial on Earth, where it's revealed that, yes, Master Chief is in fact dead. However, The Arbiter made it, which seems kinda funky, right? He also says something along the lines of "were it only so easy" when the General proclaims that The Arbiter was with him when he died.

Credits.

But wait, just like in this post, there's more after the credits! Turns out the Portal got blown up as well, and only half the ship made it through (ie Arbiter making it to earth, as he was in the driving seat up front, while Cortana and MC were chillin in the back), and yay, MC is still alive. Cortana drops a beacon but says it might be years before anyone picks it up. MC however, says "fuk dat" and goes into hypersleep in a pod like the one you woke up from in Halo, with his final words being someting along the lines of "Call on me when you need me". I forgot to mention, but along the way you fight several of those badass walkers you took down one of in Halo 2, visit areas almost identical to areas in Halo, participate in some huge badass battles, and generally having a good time."

Anyways I think a plot counts a lot in video games (definitely when I have spent upwards of 200 USD on the first 2/3rds). It counts the most in RPG games but I still enjoy a good plot all around.

I'm a BIG fan of RPG's and Storylines (especially Bioshock's) are very important to me. But in shooting games, its not as important. If the game is fun, plot isn't MAJORLY important to me.

So, my brother pre-ordered Halo 3, got it, came home and went to bed after standing infront of the store the whole night. I just beat it, and to my surprise, it wasn't half bad. SP got boring, dur to the fact that the only thing this has that Halo2 doesn't is a few new weapons, and some items.

Its fun since its a helicopter, it can hover above ground, making it great for shooting a large area. I prefer the chopper though. Also, the Elephant is fun-ish to drive, if you've loaded it with people.

This game also had a lot more physics than I had expected. In the singleplayer is where I saw it in a lot of new areas and aspects I hadn't seen before. Much of it is very subtle and only for atmosphere or just visual effect, but things like trees and plants that bend and snap back realistically, brush that gets pushed out of the way as you walk, and much more realistic ragdoll. Not to mention that the gameplay still is prime as ever. I beat the singleplayer in one day after playing it 8 hours straight. I have a mind-numbing headache right now, but it was worth it.

I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, and only dabbled in Forge, but both seem very refined and polished up from what I can tell. I also tried out the elephant a bit, and it moves a little too slow, in my opinion. But then, I was by myself in a huge map, so I it probably doesn't matter in a 16 person match, I imagine.

Also, for those wondering, I can't do Master Cat. The damn helmet is almost life size, but the opening where a head would go is a rectangle for you to hold it up on a stand. Not even a cat's head could fit there. It makes me sad. :(

Yup played halo 3, well actually I waited outside of gamespot for 3 hours for the game to be released. It was well worth it, The physics look and feel way better, Although you wont see it that well on-line.

Yeah, they basically fixed pretty much everything they got wrong in Halo 2, finished the story satisfactorily, slapped on some awesome new graphics, and up the physics a lot. And of course the new story, new online game types, weapons, vehicles, equipment, maps, revamped matchmaking, and more customizable character. It's pretty damn awesome. Also, I've got all the skulls, yay me. And the terminals are pretty interesting, as well. I don't have all of them yet, though.

I haven't checked since I got the skulls or terminals, but I believe each of those gives you a new armor type. And getting a higher rank certainly helps, too.

Actually I discovered you get them along with some of the achievements, like for taking down a specter with the spartan lazar. Ill have to try some of these later.

BTW I love how you can get the old Mark V, and marathon armor.

You should really get all of the skulls and complete the legendary levels with some friends in co-op. The difficulty level doesn't increase with more people, and I believe one or two of them require another person at least to get.

Lol. Ok. I got on today and played some great matches. I'm not that good because I am not used to console FPS. But on CS I am ranked 70th out of 13,000. So I am fairly good. And the server has about 5,000 active players.

On the topic of H3, I actually played it (gasp) at a friends house. Not online though. I don't like Halo online. *shudders* But I did play coop with the friend.

My opinion: Meh. Seen before. It's fun but not CS or TF2 caliber. Graphics look like an updated H2, and the gameplay is the same old thing.

i played for two hours ($9) at a local gaming store and it rocked! physics definetly updated(dead bodies dont wave their arms and legs when flying), with updated ragdolls and more realistic... ok, updated ragdolls:rolleyes:

i played like 30 minutes on forge, and awesomeness. We had a two-player match with a 3rd God guy, and he killed me.so i killed him. and then the tank i used was blinked out of existence and i respawned.:D I also almost got killed by a flying mongoose when he trying spawning and moved around. oh, and we were invisible, so it was wherever theres a blur.

Also look at the water. It is actually simulated. Like when a dead body or blown up warthog are in the water with a current it actually ripples and creates a wave effect. Also bodies float downstream.

YOU FOUND A HALO PLUG!! the dynamic water got cut out after the first couple of levels.. thats why when they mentioned it they only demoed it in the first few levels.. and besides... it wasnt even that dynamic, it didnt even do the worm or ride a bike or dance like john travolta... THAT is dynamic IMO.. id love to have his moves....

Played and beaten it on Heroic...meant to play it on legendary but I didn't go down one more and I found out the difficulty almost 3-4 mission in and went "Screw it" and kept playing.

Fun game, the grenade throwing was a little different and it took me a bit to get used to it...

Oh man, once I got used to it...I was looking over the recording of the first level starting over on legendary and it improved a HELL of a lot.

Literally, I was usually hitting spot on or right beside them if I was trying.

The trick is just getting used to it.

Also, I thought it was awsome to watch your WHOLE replay of whatever map and everything and take screenshots...

If I could somehow upload them to the computer I'd show ya'll.

YOU FOUND A HALO PLUG!! the dynamic water got cut out after the first couple of levels.. thats why when they mentioned it they only demoed it in the first few levels.. and besides... it wasnt even that dynamic, it didnt even do the worm or ride a bike or dance like john travolta... THAT is dynamic IMO.. id love to have his moves....

Coincidentally, my opinion on the game is the exact opposite. The graphics, physics, and weapons aren't really amazing (Except for the water. BEAUTY.), but it's sure one hell of a good game.

I would assume if you shot the fusion reactor and was in the same spot as the person, then by knowing that games don't have anomalies (I.E. wind, moisture, air pressure, etc.) then by definition you should be able to replicate the cone kill.
