Yeah gameplay ideas are really our main focus at the moment. Right now it's just kill blobs and advance. We're looking to branch out and make new levels that incorporate more physics.

Don't call me immature. Im simply excited about this game, and this is the way i express myself. Don't come calling that disguisting, like you never in your life said sh*t f*ck or even m*th*rf*ck*r.

So the game has changed quite a bit since I posted the first video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx5k4a3imrU

We thought the path we were taking the game wasn't going to be the best it could be, so we scrapped the combat entirely, and the game is now.

Expect an early downloadable version in the summer, and the full version in November!

Unfortunately, I can't release builds right now. But if you were to play both versions, I think you'd change your opinion. Everyone that played our game before thought it was pretty cool, but didn't have much desire to continue playing more than a single run through. However, the new direction has had people sitting over a half hour trying to beat this level, and enjoying it (the video makes it look REALLY easy, but it's actually extremely hard).

I think this looks damn fine. Only things I'm worried about: Levels being repetitive, seems like if you were to have the same kind of 'walkway breaking underneath you' kind of thing, it would eventually get really annoying. I'm also worried that having the same lava theme for a long time could get tiring.

Besides those points, which I'm sure you have something planned for anyways, the game looks incredible.

Looks awesome, The physics are amazing, graphics are Nice. The actual gameplay doesn't look like something I, personally, would enjoy, but I will give it a go.
In the second video is it just me or does that music sound like the music from Team Fortress 2 called The Art of War?

PS, When exactly is Summer for you? I live in South Africa and our summer is just about to end.

I seriously hope the people that said the game is ruined without combat, were kidding.
When I first saw this, it looked good, and the physics were nice, but that was about it.
The gameplay just looked extremely dull and uninteresting.

Someone posted this on Facepunch, so I figured I might take a look at it again, even though I had no interest in the first place, I was a tad curious, now.

I'm very glad I did.
This looks much much much more fun than the original Alpha build.

Now I'm actually looking foward to it, and I'll be following this closely.

Good work.

edit: And just to clear things up, yes, the gameplay before was obviously more complex, but it just seemed to be missing something.
Maybe it was the adrenaline rush, and speediness of the beta.
I'm not sure, I just know I like the simple Beta gameplay much more than the Alpha.

What are the required specs for this? (:

We haven't really tested it on a lot of machines, but it runs pretty well on my 3 year old laptop (T2600, 2gb Ram, 7900 GS Go).

Here's the DL: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W85R2KIJ

Couple comments:

You can press 1, 2, 3, 4 to change levels. 1 and 2 are the ones shown in the video, 3 is a basic platforming level, 4 is a scrapped lava river level that isn't functional.

The game is much more enjoyable on an Xbox360 controller, so if you have one of those to connect to you computer, please do it =D.

Pressing new game from the in game menu will loop your sound, a bug that didn't get spotted before the deadline, but that's what happens when you're crunching at 5am the night before =P.

And if the game doesn't run on your comp, I'm sorry. We haven't put the time into testing it on multiple machines yet, something we'll be doing before next November.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it =D

Fuck Me Sideways Yes!!!

EDIT: That was truly awesome! The standards of the levels are very different though. Level 1 and 2 very superior (mostly level 2) while level 3 was very bland, and boring tbh. Love the soundtrack! Love the intensity! Need more identification with the character and i need more epic.!

This was no disappointment at all! Feels good to finally try the game (:
Good work!

SpuD

Level 3 was only made to test platforming controls =D. 1 and 2 are the official levels, 3 and 4 are just there for shits

And yeah we'll be working with some artists over the summer to make some real assets (That's all programmer art in the game), so our character will have a lot more effort put into him.

The game ran flawlessly on 64 Bit Vista, and that's saying a lot, Overall, the game was great, if unforgiving at times. Level two was awesome, however in both the first and the second, one mistake usually meant you were starting over from the beginning of the level; it would be nice to see a checkpoint system (Is there already? I didn't die too often in the first level, but I didn't notice any checkpoints in the second)

We've got 2 months of work left on the game and are currently in the polishing stage, but we're always looking for more input on the game.

Quick question: Why in the world are you using XInput, thus limiting yourself to the actually-very-much-a-minority group of PC gamers with 360 game
pads, when your game makes no use of the only real advantages it has over DirectInput?
The sheer number of players you could get (I'm thinking double, maybe triple) far outweighs the (small) amount of work needed to use DI.
As I understand it (crashes on the only computer I've tested on thus far), the game works with keyboard/mouse, but really, this is the kind of game that begs for a gamepad.
When that is the case, limiting yourself to just one type of gamepad amid the hundreds is a deadly thing.

When that is the case, limiting yourself to just one type of gamepad amid the hundreds is a deadly thing.

Some reasons why we only support 360 controller:
- I only own a 360 controller.
- My team only owns 360 controllers.
- The school only owns 360 controllers.
- I don't know anyone who has a gamepad other than a 360 controller.
- The game we started developing wasn't going to support any gamepads, but as the game evolved I decided to add it. At the time I was already using xInput, and opted to build upon my current input engine rather than build a new one for all gamepads (I honestly didn't even think about other types of pads).

I'll do some research for other pads, but the reality is that even if I do decide to support more, I don't have any way of testing without buying some. I've also got a lot of other things to do like making sure the game works on all machines (something you've already ran into as well), content tweaks and polish, and re-factoring the input system is not very high priority.

Basically, I don't have the time or access to remake the input system, but I will still think about it.

apina

Stupid game! It wont work:(

jaybud4
09-04-2009, 09:10 PM
Okay, I can understand where you're coming from with the fact that you only have 360 controllers.
But XInput and 360 controller are not mutually exclusive.
With a few exceptions, none of which would probably have any impact on this anyway, 360 support on DirectInput == XInput.
Walaber had a similar issue when developing Gymnast, he opened the DirectInput mappings in a text file for the users to make it work with their controller themselves.

On a different note, Megaupload is the crappiest downloading system I've ever seen.
The only things I've done with it in the past month is the 114MB installer on my laptop, but now it's trying to tell me I downloaded 350MB in the past hour.
On top of that, after waiting for that to change, it's not even downloading the installer on my desktop at all.
Gah.

Everyone that cannot run the game, sorry about that. For the last month and a half we've been taking a break, 12 months of hard work for no pay kind of drains a person (also with 4-5 other classes), but once we start school again this next week, we're back in to high gear and getting everything ironed out. Over the next two months we're doing heavy compatibility testing to make sure that these things don't happen again, but as of right now I can't help you.

Aside from that, thanks a lot for all the support over the development cycle and I'm glad that those of you that can play it have enjoyed it.

Jump sound: very easy to change and we most likely will. We just have to talk about what we want it to sound like, but for the most part it should be a little more subtle and less annoying ;)

Bridge level difficulty: I'm definitely going to tone this down on the normal difficulty, while keeping "Impossible Mode" insanely hard. Yesterday we had a bunch of people attempting this level on impossible mode at PAX, and I think 3 people beat it, but it took them quite a while (one of them played for over an hour on the same level).

first of all, this as the most epic game I have ever played~

and for the end:
PLZ watch "The lazer collection" episode 1-3 in youtube and find out urself what u should put there XD
