Penumbra Overture and its direct sequel Black Plague are independant 3D first person adventure games, with a misleading fps look to them. There's very little fighting involved (absolutely none in Black Plague, and no actual weapon in either), even though there's quite a few monsters to run away from. Both are however heavily physics-based, and most of the gameplay is about toying with your environment in a pretty intuitive and realistic way : grab stuff with your mouse, lift it if it's light enough, move it around, etc. No "click to open door", you just grab and pull. And hope nothing is blocking it. All in all, a 3D-physics model at the service of a very nice, dark, clever, slightly lovecraftian adventure game. And a new approach to 3D environment interaction.
I think there is a demo at : http://www.penumbra-overture.com/index.php
