I am probably going to buy garry's mod with the counter strike source pakage. so what i'm wondering is what you think of garry's mod. i've read about how it is so good, but i want to hear negatives. is their problems? got complaints? is it worth it?

it is the best game ive bought in at least a year (Besides Gears of War) the possibilities are endless... build traps, walking mechs, rockets, boats, planes, electrical machines, and anything else you can think of. Or, go online, and build with others, roleplay, or play Zombie Survival (a mod) for CS. whatever you want to do, you can do it. BUY THE GAME!!!

and anyone else who hasnt bought the game, buy the damn game now! its amazing.

From what I remember when if was free, the one downfall of Garrys Mod is that once you build something there's nothing to actually do with it.

What do you mean?

There was tons of server's for Gmod9 where we built forts and then had a small war trying to blow up the other fort. We built tanks and mechs and fought them in duels. Theres tons of stuff, theres also RP servers.

Were the servers laggy? It certainly was when I played.

Garry's Mod 10 is cool but it takes me 10 minutes to join a server sometimes, it has to download Lua scripts each time you join. I find the game can be laggy and unstable at times. For example when I spent ages joining a server and then the game crashes just after I join it.
Besides that it's a fun game.

First of all....

Gmod9=/=Gmod10

With that said Gmod is the best game...ever...., The negatives that you seek are this:

-People messing with your stuff, solution= prop protection
-People "caging", solution= no prop protection

My only complaint was that you could not transfer stuff between servers, but with the Advanced Duplicator and Garry himself working on a solution it won't be an issue.

ok, great, so, how hard is it to build a good prop, like a tank?

Juggz

At first, blood hard. Practice on maybe a fort with just walls.

Then try making a door, i just spawn a door model and add an axis point to do that :D

then try other more complex things.

There are dozens of gamemodes. Meaning, you can just build, or you can build with a purpose. For example you can use the wire mod to break into a building and steal something, by diverting sensors, turrets, and the like. This is in a soon-to-come game-mode, made by me on a map made by another wire-er.

Negatives: Mingebags (noobs)
Mingebag admins (yep, sometimes it is so)

But beside that, you can even play on LAN or on a private server, and have spacebuild or something.

yeah i was reading about mingebags coming and destroying your stuff, so this raises another question, can you save objects you made? or a scene

Prop protection owns mingebags trying to mess up stuff in most cases. It does allow caging, all of those problems can be solved by playing on well admined servers, or with only your friends.

Gmod 10 is a very demanding game. First you might want to look up which graphics card you have. I have an Intel 945GM (I would change it if I could :( ),
and I get about 35fps on high graphics. Other than that it is a very good game that is worth the price, you just have to try it out for yourself.

That'd be perfect, I was playing this and Half Life 2 on intergrated graphics on a board from 2002...

Same card I have and I run STALKER on all high. :\

Also, depends on where you're playing. You can save scenes in singleplayer like a game, objects, only with the duplicator, but Garry hasn't added full saves, only temporary saves (until the game is closed), and wiring can be saved with the advanced duplicator. Which I know works.

The game is worth it! Think of all the addons like:

Life Support, Wire Mod, Phoenix Model pack, etc

There are just new stuff every day ( www.garrysmod.org ), and yes many of the servers are laggy.
Mainly because someone build some big ship or stuff that just laggs the whole server when they unfreeze it :P

For me, the most fun time was playin with friends in LAN.
We where like 3 players, and where playing spacebuild with wiremod.
We made one space-shuttle each, and went into space.

And with wiremod, you can put up warning systems, monitors showing how much air, coolant, energy there are left.

The only thing stopping you are your imagination!

Garry's Mod is very cool. A great thing to do is add on maps and other things such as vehicles. Even my little brother plays that Physics House Map that is available for download on www.garrysmod.org. Also its just plain fun spawning Combine and Anitilion Guards and watching the fight (maybe getting a RPG out is cool to)

9.8/10 Very fun and difenetly worth the money.

I totally recommend this game. Since I bought it, I never play anything else (with the exception of cortex command)
With the wire mod its possible to really make anything you can imagine automated. I love making turrets that spawnkill other players.
Dont call me a mingebag because making working turrets takes skill.

I have a question I never bought it or played it because I hear halflife 2 forces you to update or else you can't play is that true and is it the same for counterstrike source, this is a problem because my location can only get the dredded Dial-up. Otherwise im buying it right when I get a respond.

I suppose that if you're near or meet the recommended requirements, you should run the game without any problems.

Tried updating your drivers? That's really strange, because although the minimum requirements are the ones to run the game at 5 FPS, the recommended ones seem to always work fine. So you should check your drivers or perhaps defrag your computer.

ok(sorry if this sounds noobish, but how do i check my drivers?)

CX1329

Just go to the manufacturers' websites and download the latest drivers for whatever hardware you have installed. Make sure you know the correct model names for your stuff. Beware, though, read the instructions on the websites thoroughly, or you can seriously mess up your computer. But as long as you take care, you ought to be fine.

Also, if your computer = utter sux, find "Better Visuals" mod on garrysmod.org or facepunch. There, you can make the setting EVEN lower. It usually helps.

For those who don't have a keypad, like me, who's using the simulator on a laptop, you can just assign the keypad keys to the unused ones that you do have. :) I just thought I'd point that out.
