That would be cool, but there is already a Tac Nuke, and there wouldn't be much use of a strength mode, and speed mode wouldn't work very well. But I'd definitely dl it.

Unrelated note: My PC decides to swap between having the speeds of 1.00 of 0.30 on the Ctrl+P screen.

Also, Light Browncoat (which is dead heavy) and Heavy Sniper Rifle is a good plan for missions for me. Light Browncoat with no legs is the result of firing the sniper rifle at close quarters. Light Browncoat with no legs can fly much better than a Light Browncoat with legs. It flies well enough to navigate and entire Dummy fortress single-handed. Until it bleeds out.

Dunno 'bout you, but i think it'd be pretty boring if it didn't react to impacts whatsoever. The current method gives a pretty good illusion of physical contact, while the objects are actually being shot away with Lua.

Just for shock value, it would be pretty fun for the first couple minutes if you played multi-player. "I just crashed a ROCKET into your face and you dident Even budge! it just shattered! WTF!"

That's the problem with your theory, i want it to be fun for more than 5 minutes. Besides, if you jetpack into a dropship/rocket with the current setting, you'll lose your momentum, and the craft will be sent flying. Great fun, especially when there's something behind that craft. :U
That isn't to say that it wouldn't be fun to see it just shrug off a Rocket MK1 to the face, it's just that it's quite hard to do without compromising something.

yes, self.Vel has 2 daughter velocity that can be adjusted, (self.Vel.X/.Y)

And considering that it's been so for over a year, i can safely say that it is intentional. :U
By the way, i've sent the most recent update to beta testing, so provided that something doesn't happen, it should be available within the next week. No guarantees, though, as i don't want to pressure the beta tester(s). =P

@Lafe: Well, it probably could work, but the robot would still receive the full impact of the rocket, which would most likely kill it instantly. But don't worry, i can assure you that it looks pretty wicked when a rocket flies into you at 1000000000 km/h and gets reflected back where it came from, while you go flying in the rockets original direction, unharmed.

Ahhh, I miss the good old days where you could make a rocket go that fast by filling it full of 5,000,000,000 holes. I also miss the kamakzie mod where you could fly around the map so fast it ripped you apart. Good times, good times...

my most epic moment in cc involved kamacazing a rocket:

my friend will and i were fighting and he had a PA mars, and i had a medival dude from duh102s mod, and one of TLBs Blowguns, and i was in a normal vanilla rocket on flat-zone large. i went as fast a i could, hit the ground 20 feet in front of him, the rocket did a cartwheel, i jumped out saying "BAIL YOU CRAZY MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!" landed unharmed, the rocket careened into his face and killed him due to some miracle. i then stood triumphantly over his dead body... and got smashed by a drop pod. good times, good times.

Except for the fact that many of the major faction mods are based on humans or humanoids. Dark Storm uses clones, AAL uses clones, Kloveskan Military Force uses soldiers, the Pelian Army has 3 clones... The list goes on. You shouldn't go around saying that there are like 2 human mods in existance, when there really are quite a few. Realistic mods is an entirely different case, but mind you, Cortex Command isn't exactly realistic itself.
Besides, robots are more durable than humans, and can be larger as well. =P

Everything that needs updating, yes. It's not like i'm going to make radically different sprites for everything, i'm mainly re-shading stuff and adding a little detail here and there.
I've also redone the Plasma Bomb, so now it works 100% of the time.

This is the only game I've ever played in which the sound actually lags. That is, if the game lags, the sound gets stttrrrreeeeeeeeetttttccchhhheeeed and it sounds like slow motion scenes in movies.

Well, it's supposed to do that to even out the frames when the framerate would normally drop, you can turn it off by pressing either P or O, I think it's P, if not it's O. If you do turn it off, it is realllly jumpy. ;)

I've also noticed that a torso of any sort will make its death sound every time it makes a full rotation. So a spinning corpse, even if it's headless, will go "hugh, oooorgh, hwegh, urgh!" and so on. This also sounds weird in slow motion.

Not only that, but i think that it'll still play sound when it hits something as long as it's still "ragdoll." Which basically means any time after death before turning into terrain.

It be Ctrl-O, but it can be choppy if it often lags in slowmo mode and you use that. Its supposed to sound lag, without sound lag it sounded ridiculous if you weren't going at least 30fps.

Cool. Radar seems to be one thing that needs to already be in the game. One thing that shouldn't be in this game is the fact that wielded guns can be shot/destroyed. To me, that's a little too realistic. IRL, no one aims for the gun. In CC, you can't last more than 5 seconds under fire without you're gun being broken.

Yes but in real life you can't last more than 5 seconds under fire. You just die... I think its a pretty cool feature to me that the guns can be shot

Edit: Fantastic. I love the new robot. It's a little buggy, but overall, good job.
As for weapons, the DFA and rollermine gun are EXTREMELY effective.

If we want some realistic weapons, just change GetsHitByMOs to 0, the bullets will go right through. :D

:O i just had an idea! have any of you seen the new indiana Jones movie were indiana jones goes inside the fridge to protect himself from the nuke! WELL, if you made a fridge that you can go in, like those green droppods in the game, and made them indestructible that would be AWESOME, you can put your brain bot in it and not worry about it getting destroyed, Especially if there was a NUKE >=D. Isn't that a great idea?

It fires very large fireballs, that incinerate people like you see. Unfortunately, it doesn't know whether it's frying a Coalition or a robot, so they will all end up as skeletons. Still looks cool in game, though.

@Killa: That is a really big 7.0 caliber pistol actually. Mind you, having a bullet that big plow into your face is going to be pretty messy.

Direct hit kills or gibs instantly, splash damage and knockback scaled according to the distance from the epicentre. And yes, the rocket itself can miss, though the splash damage always hits. A direct hit also results in that sweet splattering effect that you see in the above gif. It's an entirely Lua-driven explosion, the particles are just there for visuals. Any more questions? :U

@Sakiskid: Mainly an adaptation of the combat system, really. You shouldn't expect to see ogres and dragons implemented with this mod. =P

its my new faction. the sprites aren't final, though i dont think there that bad.
yeah, on another note, drl seems to be falling apart. i just hope the game doesn't end up vaporware.

also, the mod is something too look forward too, i have lots of good ideas for it.
i.e. the actors ai probably wont be as suckish, because im going to attach a script that upps its perceptiveness when the player isent controlling it, enabling it too see further.
it might not be relased for a while, however, because i also have a game in development, and im doing a cc map/gamemode pack.

when i said the community is falling apart, i ment the modding community, i ment a combination of the newbs,
the fact that lots of old and skilled modders have left / stopped posting mods. [zalo, lordtim, grif, numgun] leaving us with the new primary sources of epic quality mods; cavecricket, dsmk, darlos, and abdul.


as for the whole community, i dont think its gotten any worse really,
when i first got there, it was a digital hornets nest, and it is still a digital hornets nest, however, a good deal of people honestly do deserve the flaming that happens there, me included. ive been looking through my old posts both here and at drl, and i was pretty trollish, not to mention my first mods and games SUCKED. however, i was realy new to the whole forum concept back then, and ive gotten much much better, both at developing things, and at being a productive member of a forum.
this doesnt mean that people should be flamed to death, but if everyone had kindly received my games, then i would never have improved.
i was really over confident and noobish when i first got here to fm, saying things like ''OMG, IM MAKING THE BESTESTST FYSICS PLATFORMER EVEAR WDSTH GAME MAKER 7111.''
but you have to understand i came from a site, where games like this;

thanks, im actually looking for beta testers, if you want to pm me i can send it to you, but its still in early alpha. unfortunately, other than the water,
[which i have yet to make] the game is not very physics based, so i doubt it will end up here. i do love physics games still, however, so expect some mini projects made in construct and unity.

Just for the record DSMK2, CaveCricket, and Darlos are all extremely old modders. As for online play: It is unfeasible. A guy came on IRC a couple of months ago and attempted to make Multiplayer. It was so unbelievably slow it was deemed impossible. That and data really lacks to effort to even attempt multiplayer. I mean quite honestly he can hardly focus on updating the devlog, which should only take about fifteen minutes a day to update. Him making multiplayer would take years I mean honestly, it takes him almost a year between each build, and he's only adding peanut features. Something major like that is just unreal.

yeah, i know, but generally they were generally periodic contributer's, updating their fudge amazing factions four or five times per year. cavecrickets amazing streak goes back for about two months, before the dual fire mode mod, when he really started to shine, he really wasn't that big in the modding community.
also, i agree;
data time is slower than valve time; at least valve updates their feed.

no, demo time is per mission, it dosent corrupt the game or anything.
try completely uninstalling the game and re dling it to a different directory.
that worked for me last year.

As far as I know, I don't have any mods, But I found choosing "Run as Administer" works fine... Any way, What file would I find mods in if I did have any? After looking in my CC file, I found "fmod.dll" should I delete that? it is the only thing I have that resembles a mod...

ones that are installed when you download the game (coalition,dummy, whitebots, browncoats, ronin, undead, wildlife, base.rte, missions.rte e.c.t.)
are vanilla content, and are required for the game to work.
any rte that you download or create that did not come with the game, is a mod.

That actually looks just like a remote control application. Well, in that case there still isn't a real multiplayer that is fun to play.

Creating a real multiplayer should be a pretty tricky job since there are waaay too many objects active at a time. Well, let's see if there will be an official multiplayer.

It'll be more practical in about 5 years when the average internet connection speed will be a 50meg connection. That might allow the host to calculate the physics of all particles and then send the data of that particle to all clients, I'd be surprised if we don't have that kind of technology by then. Well, we already do, but the cost is unbearable to the average user.

I think screen sharing is as good as it can get.
btw, the hard part isent the objects, its keeping the huge ass terrain files synced.

Oh no, screen sharing isn't as far as good as it can get!
You have to use 16bit colors instead of 32 bit ones so the lags aren't so bad that you can't see anything but single frames.

Cortex Command was originally a clone of a game, that also had destructible terrain.
And believe me, those maps had a really big resolution (up to 4000x4000 if I remember correctly)
Well, that game had multiplayer and it worked just fine! I don't know why real multiplayer shouldn't be possible.

Screen sharing isn't the perfect solution for me. And not only because it isn't lagfree enough but others could do some nasty things to your PC via screen sharing.

Making a real multiplayer is not that hard. You just have to remove some unnecessary data, like particle effects (But still keep the ground destructible) and maybe if you tweak the game engine a little more so it can handle the game scene with less data that needs to be transported you will have a nice multiplayer.

I mean, come on! Multiplayer works with really fucking complex games and it can't work with this one? Who believes that?? I think now that Data makes some real money with this game he doesn't really have to implement a multiplayer because the game already sells pretty well!

On the forums, Data said openly that there will never EVER be multiplayer.

Just go on the devlog, follow the link "OR IS IT" or something like that, check last pages, at one time a post called "THERE WILL NEVER BE MULTIPLAYER TO CORTEX COMMAND" , and in the last posts of this thread Data just agree, saying that it's not going to happen.

I think Data is lazy. Yeah. Most of the eventual buyer already bought the game anyway(i did, and I'm like... poor).


And no, it's not impossible at all, the physic can be calcuted by both the server and clients, just need to update the terrain by sending modification(and modification only) EXCEPT for when the player initially connect(this is what is used in minecraft).

The ground is actually not made out of billions of particles since that would kill your PC. The only time when particles come into play is when some ground is destructed. So basically you could remove the particles AND keep the good old destructible terrain, you only wouldn't have that dirt flying around.

The original game, remember: cortex command is a clone of it, used to save the different types of walls (destructible, not destructible, concrete etc) into a simple picture so there were no particles at all. If cortex command works the same way, that small picture could be easily be modified and updated everytime damage is done to the ground.
And there you have your "big" physics problem solved.

Well, keeping corpses and stuff synced is a whole other story :D
But I am sure that it can't be THAT complicated. Has been done at least a thousand times.

Most games don't transfer the state of the whole game, but only the input by the players. That's possible if you have a robust, deterministic* engine.


*Deterministic doesn't mean there can't be pseudo random. Some (if not all) of the games use data available to all computers to calculate the pseudo random, like using the hash of a bunch of game data or something like that.


If you make your game comply those standards, you can also save replays easily.
