i used to be a very active member of arch0wl.com. The reason for this is that even though it was a primarily a rhythm-gaming forum, They expanded to cover more topics, having a general board, boards for various styles of gaming, and even a love and lust board. (with a reminder of "If your not mature enough to handle it, don't come. We're not responsible for you being immature and offended") It spawned a great community. It was one of the most close-knit group of people I have ever seen on the internet. I think this is because of the many boards which allowed the users to really get to know each other.

Point in case, I think it would be an awesome idea to expand the forums in a fashion similar to this. I'm not asking for a clone of a0, just a place where we can discuss various things from Politics, to other styles of gaming.

opening a new forum on another host would also be pretty good, but the isolation would probably kill it.

I would love to see the forum expand in ways that cover more than just our love for physics games!

NO POLITICS ON THE INTERNET. #1 rule. It always offends someone.

Anyhoo, I think we should just stick with a general board because of a few reasons:

a) we can talk about other genres in said board.

b) internet romance is for people who can't get a date in real life.

I think it's all very well saying "I want to talk with people who like physics games about The Kyoto Protocol" but in the end you'd get people who don't like physics games joining just for the Kyoto Protocol part.

We don't want to go the way of DRFF, who originally had an off-topic board, but then people wanted an Intelligent discussion board which was very good but then people who did not deserve to be talked to intelligently got offended by it all and started being stupid. Then people decided they needed a computer help section so that was made, and nothing happened in that. Then The Twisted Spork forum bar opened which was in no way a bad thing, and everyone spent their time there. Then people realised no one had made any good mods in a while. I wonder why?

you would have a point, but the whole reason there is a L&L board is to discuss real life relationships. Nice try though.

Wait, wouldn't that just be covered in the GENERAL section, where you talk about ANYTHING?

Is there a vBulletin function or patch or custom-made thing that limits the number of posts/day in one forum? That way everyone could only post in the off-topic forum 10 times per day or whatever.

If you believe in that, you don't know anything about romance. With the Internet, you can find the ideal match, who has the same interests as you do and acts just like you would want your ideal partner to. It's a lot better than just going out with the hottest girl in the neighbourhood, who has nothing in common with you.

Think of it like this, I don't like the girls in my area, so, I turn to the Internet to help me find someone that would suit me.

Naturally, Internet dating has its dangers and downsides, but as long as you're sharp enough to detect red flags and you have enough money for a plane ticket (or a car), you're all set.

On topic, I favour a slow expansion of the forum. Nothing too quick or drastic, that could take the focus away. Perhaps a new General Gaming forum would be okay.
