ok, 668.5 posted Soldat in the "suggest a game" section. And I really must ask... WHY?

I play Soldat lots(it is my second favorite game). and I don't really notice lots of physics use, except that you turn into a bloody rag doll when shot.

Though that is an absolutely GREAT game!! (I love the sniper rifle)

Physics in soldat:

2d Cloth simulation (Flags)

Ragdolls

Realistic particles

Bullets

Grenade explosions

Anything else?

If soldat where a physics game, you could also post Unreal Tournament 2004, it has Flags, Grenades, Bullets, Ragdolls etc.

pheraps we should avoid posting regular games unless it is groundbreaking reveloutionary physics, because lots of ordinary games have physics, and we don't need to post every game

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Sorry, but that's wrong. The flags aren't even considered 2d cloth. Heck, they're 5 particles. Maybe 7. That's in NO WAY 2D cloth simulation.

Also, it doesn't have THAT much physics. Peggle has more physics than it, any OTHER game on Fun-Motion has more physics. So yeah, sorry, but it's NOT a physics game.

Also, physics game = centered around physics, not game that also has physics. And Soldat is not centered around physics.

No game has 2D cloth simulation. Soldat uses a animated picture. Same with lots of games.

Not even many 3D games have cloth simulation, the devs usually use a simply creat a 3D animated model. Cell Factor and Bet On Soldier are the first games to have cloth tearable simulation.

You could tear physical cloth in the original Bloodrayne (2003), probably not to the same extent as in Cell Factor though, but you could still do it.

yah, I was going to say that the flags are just animated. though thanks for answering to the question.

I still don't consider it as a 'physics game' as the gameplay is not based around physics, even though it does have some physics in it.

The flags are not animated, for example if you
jump with the flag it moves like it should.

Thats what i'm saying.

And just like I said. 2 particles + stick. Meaning it moves...artificially. It couldn't be classified as real cloth physics, it'd need quite a few particles to classify like that.

Bottom-line. Soldat is a GREAT game. But it's not a physics game. It just uses physics.

good bottom line.

I still think that the cloth is purely animated(except for the stick it is on).

Well, then, how does soldat match up to peggle, or cortex command? What are the physics there?

Especially peggle is physics based game, it has to have physics to play it. We can play Soldat without physics, it's not necessary, it's just nice add

oh come on, peggle had gravity, whoopee. So did super mario 64, you dont see me calling that a physics game?

Okay then, let's say Soldat is a physics game and let's all just shut up?

I agree, I doubt that Matthew would post a review about any game unless its focus was mainly on physics, or physical manipulation.

As it is, Soldats physics usage sounds purely cosmetic, if you were to take the physics equations out of Soldat would the gameplay change? If so, then yes it's a physics game. If no, then no it's not a physics game.

super mario 64 had awsome physics, coin physics, mushroom physics, shell physics, jump physics ,level enter physics ,ice physics ,cannon physics. and thats all i can think of

No, the gameplay WOULD NOT change if you took out the physics.
You just wouldn't have as nice visual effects.

BTW:That is a good way of thinking about it, c--b. ;)

I agree, no need to get worked up over a game.

I'm sorry, but why did you bump this thread when there was one already. Wait no, it's not your fault. Sorry. This was the original theard not the new one.

Actually, the gameplay would change.

Jumping is a HUGE part of the game and so is the jetpack. If we took out the physics, it would just be a hideous animation of some guy jumping. The physics are what makes soldat great. Don't you know what climb maps are? Would those even exist if it weren't for kick jumps and nade jumps and all sorts of physicsy crap? I don't think so. It wouldn't be fun.

Definately not a physics game IMO, but you guys are leaving out the biggest part of the physics.

We're debating, not arguing.

There's a difference

There's already a structure in place for voting on the merit of a thread in the Suggest a Game board -- use the star rating system. You can 1-star to your heart's content.

Also, let's keep things like font-yelling and thread-necro to a bare minimum. As Maltor pointed out in the other thread (http://fun-motion.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473), this thread was nothing but arguing, so I'm locking it.

EDIT: You Fail Me -- I hear ya. Can we move it into the other thread?
