Achievement Points? (credit to juju02)

He had an idea that every once in a while we'd give each other Xbox Live-type achievement points for being awesome... there's an image but I don't know where to find it. Then we'd keep track of the points in our sigs. Maybe there'd be some kind of award for whoever had the most at some time in the year? Feedback? For him?

Interesting idea, and I don't think it'd have to be done manually in everybody's sigs, I'm sure somebody's made a hack or plugin to serve that purpose for vB. I say good idea, though.

Am I the only one who is annoyed by this? I feel like people are making off-topic posts to just offer achievement points. I wouldn't mind if Mathew would somehow integrate this into the forums with a plug-in, or at least we could add in the thanks, agree, disagree feature that other forums have done.

I'm not trying to destroy your idea I'm just a little annoyed and feel that it could be done better.

That wouldn't happen if a plugin similar to facepunch's was used. They have kinda the same thing going on and everyone uses it. It builds e-penis.

I just think it'll get really bad, worse than what normally happens with Post count. You'll have people flaming people because they have small amounts of Achievement points, you'll have people making funny spam posts just to get some points, and one's more likely to give APs to "senior members" purely because you know them better and then newbies wont get any.

Look, I agree, Achievement points only give other users ways of downsizing others. While fun, and a great way to have more integration of the forums, this just gets out of hand, pretty soon people will just start giving out random points, sure I like to get points, but I have a feeling this will get used and abused too quickly.
