More Instant Messaging fields.

Being a profile customization junkie as I am, I HAD to post this.

Right now, the IM section of the profile allows for IQC, AIM, MSN, Yahoo! and Skype. I don't know if it could be made, but I think Steam and Xfire fields would be nice. They're pretty widely used IM platforms, and they're related to physic games (specially Steam, now with the in-game talking feature).

Sure, you can add the IDs to your signature, but I bet less people would look at it and/or notice it, plus, if you got too much shit in it, you'd have to delete some of it, wich wouldn't be nice if all of it was important or something.

What do you think about this?

Personally, I think there is enough IM feilds on the profile page already... Steam could be a good Idea, though...

But I always loose track of the people I know on steam, it just get's too clogged up. And also there is already a sticky, I belive, where you can post your steam usernames anyway...

But yeah, it might be worth doing...

To solve the too much people problem, delete people you don't talk with :D

And yeah, there's a thread, but hell, you'd have to check the thread every single time you'd want somebody's ID, and there's always the chance that that somebody hasn't posted it, in wich case you'd have to ask that person, with the big fat chance of getting a big "NO." in your face and look like an idiot for asking something that is preliminarily obvious.

It'd actually be pretty simple, as far as I could tell, but then I don't know how vBulletin works, really. But I imagine for all of the fields, they just assign the value of that to a PHP variable, and then use an automatic command to write that value to the MySQL database. Then that variable is called up when a user posts and associated with an image, and is linked to an auto-generated page with the information on it.

But that's just my guess of how it probably works, I have no real idea how vB works. If it does work that way it'd be pretty easy to change to have more fields, but I'm not an admin, so we'd have to get Matt on the job.

Yeah, trouble is with matt is that he seems so distant, getting in toutch with him is a real task. But hey, good luck I think it'a a good idea...

While you're at it, why not add in XBL gamertags and PS3 whatchamabobs?

That we we won't really need entire threads dedicated to this stuff.
